New Zealand Police Minister Stuart Nash announced this week that more than 32,000 prohibited weapons have been returned to the government since collections began in mid-July. Some estimates put the number of newly-banned military-style semi-automatic rifles in the country at up to 175,000.
This would suggest a compliance rate, so far, as low as 18 percent, 16 weeks into the buyback program. With seven weeks left to go until the amnesty period ends, if the current rate of return holds, the New Zealand government is on track to collect around 50,000 prohibited weapons pursuant to the buyback. That would impute a final compliance rate of around 29 percent, at the lower end, which would represent a modest but tangible success for policymakers.

“....more than 32,000 prohibited weapons have been returned to the government...”
The government shouldn’t have sold/given them to the public in the first place. Then, the public wouldn’t have to return them to the government.
Oh, wait a minute...
Jeez, did you folks see what they have prohibited? Semis larger than a .22? Pump shotguns with more than a 5 round cap?
WTH?!
They should invite Beto O’Rourke down there, now that he has nothing to do. He’ll get all the guns confiscated lickety-split.
bttt
“... more than 32,000 prohibited weapons have been returned to the government...”
So the government owned them in the first place?
What goes unmentioned in all the NZ gun grab news is the existence of more than 700,000 Maoris with a “we were here first!” attitude and who surely own a large number of semiauto’s in a traditional Polynesian warrior culture.
Disarming Maoris will be problematic. If the NZ government decides to just leave them alone, the white majority will be (heh) up in arms.
It means,
They turned in their crap weapons to placate their gubmint.
Majority by far keep their good ones.
My wife says the Prime Minister is a man in drag.
“Buy back”??? Did the idiot government sell them to the people in the first place? What nitwit writing.
I don’t think they know what tangible or success means.
“Returned”? “buy back”?
Verbal acrobatics. Anything to avoid telling the truth. It’s nothing less than confiscation.
She’s a commie in a suit.
The government there doesn’t need to worry. Once the ‘buyback’ is over, they’ll start with the show-trials as they come across the weapons, dutifully covered 24/7 by the media. And, as people there see their friends and neighbors going up river for 10+ years, they’ll reconsider their civil disobiedence.
In other words, if people here don’t want the same outcome, they need to learn to VOTE in the November elections, rather than bitching and sitting it out, in their pathetic attemps to ‘teach the RINOs a lesson...as none of the New Zealand crap will be possible here, if we PREVENT the Democrats from taking power - by keeping them away from power.
NZ PM Jacinda Ardern
