Mexican officials would never take up Trump on his offer for two reasons; first is the obvious fear of targeting and assassination. Second is the fear of losing sovereignty to the U.S., which to them is worse than losing control to cartels.

That said, it would be a major mistake to send US military forces into Mexico. A major mistake.
Mexico is a failed state which relies on the USA. Mexicans come to the USA to work because Mexico doesn’t create jobs. Mexicans come to the USA to escape crime and corruption which infiltrate government and law enforcement. They send their criminals here.
It is a failure. We keep it afloat.

Yeah, this is just posturing to take advantage of a scare situation that he helped create. Notice that he proposes no effective action, just policy-wonk nattering. If the US took effective action, what would Sasse and his sleazy ilk have to run on?
His open borders, take it easy on the cartels posturing is simply to advance his own power.
I’ve been saying interdiction drones and disappearing cartel leaders would be fairly easy. But the response would be more significant than ISIS.
We should have taken action years ago. Maybe we should just pay more than they do.
I agree and the money likely comes from the same places/people at times. America is in no position to throw stones at Mexico for being corrupt. Not when it's common knowledge DC is filled to the brim with corruption, mostly on the left, but some on the right too. Greed knows no party affiliation. Dems are more open to corruption because their lack of values, self esteem, and dignity makes it a shorter trip.
I guess if they can’t get Trump to wage war in the ME, they will try to go to war with Mexico.
