Like many other Republican and conservative voters in California, the retired couple have decided to leave the state. A major reason, Stark and her spouse say, is their disenchantment with deep-blue Californias liberal political culture.
Despite spending most of their lives in the Golden State, they were fed up with high taxes, lukewarm support for local law enforcement, and policies they believe have thrown open the doors to illegal immigration.

The California capital gains exclusion for primary residence is the same as federal tax law.

Kind of crazy to be responding about a thread 8 years ago, while ignoring your silly error.
Not BS.
Yes, and we exceeded it. Why is this so hard to understand in an area like Silicon Valley where housing is extremely overpriced?
True. Didn’t we all take heed when Moochelle said.....
(article excerpt)
she witnessed white flight a phenomenon in which white people leave areas that are becoming more diverse.
As we moved in, white folks moved out because they were afraid of what our families represented, Obama said at the summit. Yall were running from us. And youre still running.

Me, again—So she thought whites were leaving Chicago and they feared it would degenerate into a murder crazed crime haven totally out of control of law enforcement?
Perish the thought! Chicago looks like Mayberry today.
You have at least 2. We moved to SC from CA and have never been happier. However, we have neighbors moving in from NY and NJ and bringing their liberalism with them. One of them was triggered last Christmas by an outside manger scene. They haven’t made any friends here.
We left California two days ago and arrived in Northern Idaho last night at 5:30 PM. We are proud to now be Idahoans!
As soon as we crossed the border, my 10 year old son happily exclaimed that my first order of business should be to add proper pistol grips to my rifles.
FR should be a player in developing and advocating the model. Absent that its death and taxes Trump is not going to save us in that area; it must come from us, it must be bold, comprehensive and sustained.
691,145 Californians left last year: What state did they go to?
The top spot is Texas that got 86,164 Californians in 2018.
I may be in the minority here but I have lived in California my whole life and the only way I am leaving it (except for occasional vacations) is in a pine box. Good enough for Jim Robinson, good enough for me.
We tell the Central Americans and Mexicans to stay and fix their own countries rather than come to the US. I don’t see how this is any different. Obviously different Freepers will have different circumstances, but in my case I would be leaving behind not only my job but my entire immediate family and the home I got a once-in-a-lifetime deal on. As a healthy young person I believe these are things I should be standing up and fighting for. Running just seems like the coward’s way out in my circumstances.
Its been awhile.

It is referring to states controlled by Republicans. Don’t forget the MSM switched the colors of showing Republicans in blue and Dems in Red several elections ago. Thus folks think now of Commie Red Republicans, just like you mistakenly did.
Everyone’s situation is different.
I live on the East Coast in a high property tax state, but my property taxes are very low (for reasons I do _not_ want to discuss ;-) ). The numbers work in my particular situation.
We should insist that Californians stay there. They infect everything they touch and every place they go. And yes, all of them.
—> I left California in 2006 and Ive never looked back. <—
Ditto in 2014. Crazi Cali was really bad then and it sucks that people who are native to Cali just cant take any more of the crap. Its a beautiful state but the dems are ruining it.
Take a look at San Bernardino which is just an hour East of LA. Good G_d!
You mean that the “conservatives” who are leaving are going to other states and making those states more “conservative?”
Most of the time I read that ALL the people who are leaving their home states are moving and taking their Leftie ideas with them.
I think I prefer to believe the former and disregard the latter.
Now, I feel better.
You bet, every single one of them!
if people were really disgusted by California they would leave well before retirement age...
