As homeless camps continue to spring up in Austin, Gov. Abbott orders cleanup effort
Fox News ^ | November4,2019 | By Nick Givas

The project started on Monday morning as cleaning crews used leaf blowers and street sweepers to clear debris while they were guarded by state police.

Fox News sent a camera crew and reporter Aishah Hasine into Austin to investigate and ask questions to people on the ground.

"We saw textile crews out and about escorted by state police cleaning up the trash out here, using leaf blowers and a street sweeper," Hasine told the hosts of "Fox & Friends." "The second part we believe will be to pack up the folks living here as the state steps in and frustration mounts, over how the city is handling this crisis."

Residents complained of "tent cities" sprouting up near state highways and said homeless people have continually urinated and defecated in the streets.

One man interviewed by Hasine claimed homeless people come from all around the country to live on the streets in Austin because the authorities are lax and there are many incentives, like free food and shelter.

"You don't have to buy food," he said. "Everybody feeds you. They give you money. You can party. It's a blast, man."

James Dickey, Texas state GOP chairman, reacted to the crisis on "Fox & Friends First" Monday and supported Abbott's initiative while blasting cities like San Fransisco for setting a bad example.

I remember a lot of hippie kids in San Francisco in Golden Gate Park in the 1980s that loved the whole “homeless” lifestyle

The scene now is a lot more hard-core and there’s a lot more metal illness and drug problems and things like that

Even Portland got tired of the homeless camps next to the MAX light rail.
Taking the MAX from the airport gave you 20 min of wall to wall homeless camps.
Not sure if they came back or not.

Leftists know how to make a mess, but they don't know (or care) how to clean it up. They would rather live with it.

Put a call out to conservatives to show them how it's done. Maybe they can convince them it's better to PREVENT the mess in the first place. Hint, hint!

Just waiting for someone to proclaim that cleaning up trash and waste is racist and a trigger for individuals in crisis.

Texans are ashamed that the Left has ruined our capital city. We ought to move it to San Angelo and build a wall around Austin, to keep the cancer from spreading.

I lived in Austin from 92-2000. Only place to live without lib insanity in the northwest like Leander, Cedar Park. I lived in West Lake Hills and was surrounded by elitist libs. 2 UT professors, a civil rights atty, a retired nut job that drove a 40 year old Volvo that had a Mondale/Ferraro sticker on it.

This happened because the liberal nutjob city council decided it was legal for them to camp and crap on public property.

“We saw textile crews out and about escorted by state police cleaning up the trash out here, using leaf blowers and a street sweeper,”

The only textile crew I found has members who informally teach one another new crochet and knitting skills.

How many were bused in from NY?

In any event, send them to NY and return the favor.
