US President Donald Trumps many critics insist he has no idea what he is doing in Syria. The assassination of Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi over the weekend by US special forces showed this criticism is misplaced. Trump has a very good idea of what he is doing in Syria, not only regarding ISIS, but regarding the diverse competing actors on the ground.
Regarding ISIS, the obvious lesson of the al-Baghdadi raid is that Trumps critics claim that his withdrawal of US forces from Syrias border with Turkey meant that he was going to allow ISIS to regenerate was utterly baseless.
The raid did more than that. Al-Baghdadis assassination, and Trumps discussion of the mass murderers death, showed that Trump has not merely maintained faith with the fight against ISIS and its allied jihadist groups. He has fundamentally changed the USs counterterror fighting doctrine, particularly as it relates to psychological warfare against jihadists.

This was an epic article that speaks the brutal truth of what we face.
Also, I would suggest everyone here get themselves a big, nasty black dog to watch over you.

The assassination of Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi ...
How was this an "assassination" by any objective measure? Every report I've read says he blew himself (and three of his children) up with a suicide vest.
Most informative
I have one question....
Was/is it 3D, 4D, or 5D chess?
Trump is a genius! Trump has become a political genius as well!
WINNING, WINNING, WINNING and ... Jeffrey Epstein didn’t kill himself.
Yes, “assassination” is a poor word choice, but the article has a great deal of interesting information.
Suicide would have been a better choice.
I would like to have the credit for the following, but they are comments from a friend about DJT’s Syrian gambit- not about the bagyodaddy shot:
“Consider:
By Trump pulling the troops out of Syria, Turkey invaded Syria and assaulted the Kurds. The Russians sent an envoy to Damascus to make a deal between the Kurds and Syrian government to unite them against Turkey.
Iran not happy the Turks are in Syria and brought their troops to the border of Turkey. Germany hits Turkey with sanctions. As long as we were there, those forces were united against us.
He’s pitting these former allies against each other. They’re neutralizing each other and it cost the U.S. zip!
Formerly Turkey, Iran, Russia and Syria were united against the U.S. Europeans were not involved and were enjoying U.S. protecting their interest but now they are busy fighting for their interests.
Its good for Israel because Iran has to defend Syria against Turkey instead of focusing on Israel. Three enemies of Israel: Iran, Turkey and Syria are facing off against each other.
This invasion is gonna cost Turkey! So it brought unity between Syria and Kurds, and division between Russia, Turkey and Iran.
Donald may be a pretty good chess player.”
The four most powerful dynamics in the Middle east are:
1. Tribal loyalism and its inherent conflict with others.
2. The constant outbreaks of the Islamic Civil War driven by Salafism and its perversions.
3. The historic and permanent rivalry between Sunni and Shia.
4. The hatred to the death of Israels Jews.
Any strategy we have for dealing with the Middle East has to start and be centered on those four points.
We Americans have all the oil and gas we need long term, could use a few more refineries.
We Americans, because we are energy independent need to wean ourselves off of protecting ME oil for the rest of the world.
Sorry Japan, China, India, France, and others, you need to fight your own fight.
We are no longer for hire, can’t sell it at election time.
Yes. Same outcome. AC doesnt get it.
Same result. If not for Trump, this would not have happened.
Dont know how well he plays chess, but I bet after a few games, he would own the board and every piece. Lol. So in the end, he wins anyway. Pwned.
