Freighter attacked in Gulf of Guinea, 9 crew kidnapped
Mikhail Voytenko News November 2, 2019 12:15 pm
Cargo ship was attacked early in the morning Nov 2 at Cotonou Anchorage, Benin Gulf of Guinea. 9 crew were reportedly, kidnapped. Ships name though identified, cant yet be revealed, until information is confirmed.
Possibly, possibly not. Even a weak defense could kill a few pirates, thus discouraging the activity, as a whole. A strong defense could kill a lot of pirates.
First, you must be alerted to the approach, which is what I proposed.
Shipping ping.
Nearly 11,000 DWT
when I owned cargo ships in the last century my largest was 7500 DWT
HOUSTON bar to Niger Delta is quite a haul non stop
Notice its simply a people ransom not a ships ransom
Its not loaded with crude is why I guess
This also occurred at anchor not while underway
We used to run poles Mobile to Daa Es Saalem in 88/89
Long ass trip in a freighter smaller than this one
Bunkered in Durban...cheap....and illegal ...the embargo....like I cared lol
Maltese flagged vessel
I loved SA then
I used to charter PanaMax stuff. 11,000 DWT is a mail run. ;-)
Russia is taking its time adjusting to a modern, more gentle world. It turns out that this is a good idea since the modern world is no more gentle than the old world.
We need more world-wide outrage. German and Russia need to just ask "you got a problem with that?" and stare real hard at the whiners like they might just be in league with the pirates.
