In Cali, it is best not to store a lot of food. They have those markets where things go from farm to table in zero to sixty.

You can't expect these retarded California people to have a sense of humor about this. I thought it was a pretty good statement.

In fact I might have taken it step further and told those watching Eat This!

What a crock! PG&E as a public utility operates under the thumb of the highly politicized Democrats. I look at the statement from the CEO as directly attributable to the leftist party governance of the State I live in.

The government of the State of California has a track record of environmental rulings that override commonsense.

Prepper Ping - California needs electricity, ..or wait for government help ?

SkyDancer :" Still need power to farm. Also, what about all the food in stores? "

The average food store needs to be resupplied approximately every three days.
They have only a limited supply in the back storage rooms
Fruits and vegetables need refrigeration during transport and to delay becoming over-ripe.
Diary, frozen and other food stuffs require constant refrigeration so as not to spoil.
This is one good reason to have a suitable and adequate supply of dry goods,
grains, rice, beans, and dehydrated foods on hand depending on the size of your family.
Canned goods, while generally higher in sodium, are your friend along with a manual can opener.
The only other possibility is to have your own, family electrical generator,
and then determine the size generator depending on your 'NEEDS' vs. 'WANTS'.

Sure, I’d be royally ticked off seeing my freezer foods rot but these people were warned many days out.

They had plenty of fair warning to reduce spoilage by home canning it. Ok, so many people have never home canned - so LEARN!

Pull out that food dehydrator (or make your own) that hasn’t been opened since Aunt Betty Lou gave it to you 20 years ago. Meat is expensive so make jerky in the dehydrator or oven.

Don’t buy any new food but do eat down what is in your fridge and freezer.

Buy a generator to run your freezer.

Buy charcoal for the bbq grill and have a block party with freezer stuff 3 days after the power goes out. Food will last 3 days in a freezer (eat the ice cream first!) but only a few hours in the fridge.

Cook up what will last a few days after your scheduled power cut - baked goods will use up perishable juice, fruit, milk, butter, eggs and even vegetables. Yogurt, cream, sour cream, cottage cheese and cream cheese can be substituted for milk in baked goods. Cookies last a long time, cakes a few days and pies only a couple days.

Make or buy a solar oven to cook on while you’re without power.

I'm not sure the words 'California' and 'commonsense' can still be used in the same sentence since they are diametric opposites.

City dwellers really can’t use gen’s because of noise unless the get one of those really quiet Honda’s; country folks should have a gen.

Many canned goods these days are “no salt added” or “low sodium” so buy those instead of the regular high salt products.

Dry goods are far cheaper in bulk.
I buy Weheni Rice in twenty five pound bags, and I generally buy barley in fourty pound bags.

I keep the grains in five Gallon Buckets.

According to posts here, some folks only got 3 hours advance word of power getting cut. Good information on crisis foods survival in a power outage in your post #13 !
Much to consider there and apply.
Well done ,.. and innovative !

Gov. Newsom said he thinks the state should take over PG&E. Now what do you suppose the democrats who run the state would do with all that money? What do you suppose the consumers would do when the democrats triple the rates while severely cutting allowable consumption? To a democrat, it’s all about the control of others. What a hammer they’ll have if they take over PG&E.

Lawsuits 100 years or so ago determined that power companies are not liable for damages caused by power outages.
