GOP lawmaker invokes possibility of 'civil war' after House votes on Trump impeachment procedures
The Hill ^ | 10/31/2019 | Aris Folley

Posted on 10/31/2019 3:49:32 PM PDT by Crazieman

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) said on Thursday that House Democrats’ ongoing inquiry into the president's dealings in the Ukraine is “about to push this country to a civil war if they were to get their wishes.”

Gohmert, speaking after the House voted along party lines to approve a measure establishing procedures for the impeachment process, added, “And if there’s one thing I don’t want to see in my lifetime, I don’t want to ever have participation in, it’s a civil war. Some historian, I don’t remember who, said, guns are only involved in the last phase of a civil war."

During his address on the House floor Thursday afternoon, Gohmert said that while some say the vote “was very important,” he believes it “didn’t do so much.”

The Texas Republican further contended that he is still of the opinion that the House will “not end up having a vote in this chamber on whether or not to actually impeach President Trump because if that happens, it goes to the Senate,” where he predicted it would get a “slam dunk down” on the basis of “massive failure of due process, as well as no evidence, no direct evidence of any wrongdoing.”

“I still believe that he is one of the more honorable thieves.”

Not quite the epitaph I’d expect on my chosen savior’s tombstone - but as good as any, I suppose. Meh.

That is if law and logic prevail. But in the Senate, the fear is that some Senators could be blackmailed by deep state actors, ie Romney, Ryan.

Alcee Hastings

One of the most incompetent and corrupt members of Congress. He is a criminal but he keeps getting re elected because his district is totally cool with criminality

Excellent post. It would be something of a parallel with the settler experience in the vicinity of hostile Indian tribes during the 1800s. What's old would be new again.

Hastings was a former federal Judge in Florida. Impeached for bribery and perjury. Folks should read the history on his convictions. Mind blowing.

Ironic.

You are forgetting one thing. In those foreign examples, the countryside isn’t armed to the teeth. They are mostly very simple farmers. In middle America, vets are everywhere, guns are common.
In US cities, both are very rare.

There will be no government militias coming out of the cities. No other nation on earth has the US tradition of hunting and marksmanship with rifles far better than most nations scarce sniper rifles.

American city people will not be able to dominate our rural people.

I disagree on that point.

Local Governments will have their police forces "look the other way" as criminal gangs go after their political opponents. They will make other concessions as well. That is where your Government-sponsored militias will originate. The Mayor and City Councilmen may find them surprisingly useful.

There have already been historical incidents of this kind of thing in Chicago, New York, and Los Angles. In modern day versions, the Government will supply weapons, ammunition and targets. Check out Caracas, Venezuela for examples of how this goes down. Watch for it to show up in Minneapolis, and Philadelphia.

American city people will not be able to dominate our rural people.

I would hope that is the case.

When the troubles come to your area, you are going to need active supply lines and supporters from out-of-area in order to prevail. Best to keep up contacts with friends from far away as well as nearby.

“”Meh””

Just the fact that you choose to use the lingo of whatever is the popular notion of today shows that you’re not on the same planet as the majority of us. We speak language we were taught and raised with and don’t go for the “pop” words. I would say that most of us don’t even know what “MEH” is supposed to mean along with hundreds of other words in current usage. I’m no different from my own grandparents, I suppose who disliked popular music or the idea of the first horseless carriage.

I’m not sure that bragging about one’s illiteracy is the way to go, but suit yourself.

Rep. Louis Gohmert is my Congressman and anything but a swamp creature. He has decades of history as a strong conservative.

“”I’m not sure that bragging about one’s illiteracy is the way to go, but suit yourself.””

It’s illiterate to not understand what seems to be popular phrases among those who are trying to impress someone? It’s been around HOW LONG? Right up there with “woke”, I suppose - another EVERY DAY word??

Thanks but I’ll stick with what I learned in school during my long ago school days. Thank goodness some of us aren’t enamored OR ENVIOUS of others using popular slang.

“”This particular interjection has somehow become quite popular among teens, the reason for this popularity is a mystery. Other popular interjections are “ bleh “, “dah”, and “ mih “.””

Teens, huh? Figures!!! You should be on a discussion site more in line with your age group!

Something tells me the person you and I are addressing is some kind of creature himself. He has a high opinion of himself and is not impressive at all except as a pest!

You’re still ranting about your issues with not being able to read and understand? Oy.

So you don’t blow another gasket and lose sleep over terms that confuse you, the internet has resources (e.g. dictionaries) that should help you:
https://www.merriam-webster.com
https://www.grammar.com/vocabulary-builder

Apart from that, I don’t know how I can help you, sorry (I assume you can figure out how to use such resources). If you need more help, I’m guessing there are some adult education classes you can check into on your local level. I think your local United Way may be able to make a reference in that regard, if you contact them.
Good luck.

You might get a hint from my post at #72 that I already used those sources, thank you. If your tutor hasn’t gone home for the day, you can ask him/her to read this to you.

“He has decades of history as a strong conservative.”

Other than throwing out red-meat bluster, he has accomplished *what* exactly in _real action_ to kill the Dem witch hunt?

I’m more of a fan of deeds than of speeches/words. I mean, I’ll give you that he can toss out some of the reddest meat for consumption with the best of ‘em - if that’s all that really matters to a person.

Not to single him out, though - he’s just the topic here. There’s a boatload like him who offer up the red meat without actually having done anything. So he’s not alone.

I’d just suggest that it’s wise to be careful about whom one chooses to put on a pedestal.

Try sending that message to the wimps we elect to not elect deep state @ss hats as speaker. In fairness Gowdy nor anyone else was allowed to do much by Ryan. At least Louie had the b@lls to challenge Ryan for speakership, it was all the cowards he has a colleagues that wimped out.

You may have noticed that Nancy rules with an iron hand.
