Snow has forced the cancellation of more than 200 flights at Chicago's international airports on Halloween.
...
National Weather Service meteorologist Todd Kluber told the Chicago Sun-Times that O'Hare was expected to receive up to 3 inches of snow by Thursday night. Midway could get between 1 and 2 inches.
Kluber said a heavy band of snow in Illinois' Kane County was expected to move east Thursday, reaching Chicago by noon. The heaviest snowfall is expected between noon and 4 p.m.

Oh, fudge. My mother is trying to get from Orlando to New York this weekend, non-rev, and problems anywhere in the system make it less likely.

1991? 15,000 years ago we had a mini ice age. That was global cooling. Then we had global warming and the ice melted. That's how the Great Lakes were formed.
Where were the cars, coal fired plants and jet carbon footprints back then?

Did a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong landing in an L-1011 at O’Hare (passenger). Many years ago, obviously.
Saw the thrust reversers pop up on that RR engine (starboard wing) but they must not have touched the brakes. I was praying it was an 18,000-footer.

They go back and forth between using RT’s and brakes. During so-called fuel crisis pilots were told to lay off RTs and use brakes to save fuel - then management saw how many brakes planes were going through and it was back to thrusters again. Now it slow down with RT’s to 80kts and brakes the rest of the way in.

Braking conditions that winter must have been awfully bad. Especially at O’Hare and the NE where I was going.
