Los Angeles International Airport officials apologized late Tuesday night for an unacceptable level of service after travelers using the new Uber, Lyft and taxi pickup system faced gridlock, packed shuttle buses and long wait times for rides.
Tempers ran high as travelers encountered heavy traffic on the way to the new pickup area and wait times for Uber and Lyft that often exceeded an hour. Some travelers said it took them longer to find a ride home than it did to fly to Los Angeles.
We really, really apologize for people who got caught in that, said Michael Christensen, LAXs deputy executive director of operations and maintenance. The new system began operation Tuesday.

1) Don’t travel to CA.
2) Don’t fly.
FYI for Freeper LAX travelers unaware of the situation.
Another reason not to go to California.
Supposedly it is construction related and have reduced traffic flow around the terminals..
You guys are quick
Uber and Lyft mean too much freedom and decision making in the hands of evil citizens.
The rulers of LA/Californicator land want everyone/peon to ride mASS transit to and from LAX on the schedules they set up.
“Supposedly it is construction related and have reduced traffic flow around the terminals..”
We moved to California in the late 1960’s, and before, then I often flew out here for business.
LAX and SFO and the roads to and from and the airports were under construction then. They still are “under construction”!
There are other airports in LA other than LAX. I recently had to fly into LA and went through Burbank. WAY easier.
My trips to LA are over, but I didn’t see any construction south of the airport on Sepulveda Blvd the last couple of years.
It depends where you want go in the LA area. Flying into Burbank was not an option for me.
I saw this trying to work in Vegas after a conference.
It didn’t work there either.
The system is operating exactly as designed. Either pay LAX for parking, or pay for a personal limo that pays LAX a large percentage. Dont like that?? Then go stand in line with the rest of the smelly peons.
You will note that this system does not apply to the private arrivals terminal???
LAX takes practice. There is a nice Peet’s coffee nearby on Manchester and Lincoln in the Gelsen market. Here is the new LAX announcement.

“We’re making LAX way better. Really.” Funny ad.
The problem is traffic.
The LAX solution is to force taxis and ride shares to meet travelers at another parking lot. The airport is just too small for its volume.
Under most circumstances LAX is cheaper than the alternatives.
I just had a similar experience at another major airport where the arrival pickup zone went into gridlock. It is a real bottle neck in the system. Increased traffic from ride sharing is replacing people who park their car at the airport.
It’s California. Stupid is as stupid does.
Yeah, I really wonder what people here are suggesting as an alternative to the gridlock at LAX.
I flew out of Ontario, Cal. last year. My sister drove us right up, no traffic, maybe the easiest airport I’ve ever flown out of.
