ROME A group of regional leaders from the Amazon proposed Monday at the Vatican that rich nations be compelled to indemnify them for environmental damage caused in the so-called lung of the planet.
Gathered for the Vaticans Pan-Amazonian Synod, Brazilian governors as well as regional governments of other Amazon countries held a special summit at the Pontifical Academy for Sciences Monday, in which they insisted that the Amazon is a natural carbon sink that releases oxygen for the whole world and they deserve compensation for it.
Governor Wellington Dias of the Brazilian state of Piauí proposed the creation of the Pan-American Permanent Forum for the Defense of the Amazon, which met with unanimous approval by the other governors and participants.
Science points to a great risk of climate change on the planet and there is a need to address this issue more swiftly, Mr. Dias said. Brazil, as a country that captures carbon dioxide and emits oxygen, has an estimated $30 billion in receivables.
The payments, Dias said, would go into a financial fund to address the damage caused to the environment by the rich countries, which with high levels of consumption are the most responsible for the emission of greenhouse gases on the planet.
The world had, throughout its history, a development model focused on deforestation, on the destruction of nature, Dias said. Yet historically, Europe, and even here in the Vatican, was covered in forests.
At the end of Mondays summit, the regional leaders published a declaration, which they also sent to Pope Francis, outlining their proposal for the sustainable development of the Amazon.
Rich countries must expand their financing commitments to recognize the value of Amazonian environmental services, which benefit all mankind, and are maintained by the Amazon, the declaration states

They should get eleventy-skadillion dollars.
Gimme a dollar !
Well, this is what it has always been about. Successful countries are shamed into giving money to indolent failures. No surprise that the pope-a-dope is in this picture.
The vatican doesn’t have any forests. Let the vatican pay money for the CO2 that it emits.
Ping me when China goes along with this.

“The vatican doesnt have any forests”
One would have to physically view any Land Titles the Vatican hold to ascertain if that is a factual statement or not.
After all what does the Vativan burn when selecting a new pope? If it’s white smoke a selection has been made, and if it is black smoke a selection has not been made.
Is the Vatican burning firewood for that information to be propagated? And whence does this firewood come from?
Wish we were a Rich Country, but unfortunately we are in Debt to the tune of $22,000,000,000,000 and counting.
Once we pay that it off we are in Fat City.
This has a Soros stench to it
I got your billions right here, starting with my extended middle finger.
Shove it, shove it deep, shove it often, but shove it.

re: “Gimme a dollar ! “
For the “title” to your soul? That’s the way these things work ...
“You have some money. Give it to me.”
They set the fires themselves to clear land for farming.
I would tell them they are in charge of their rain forests, we aren’t.
bump, with grimace
Factor in the cost of illegal immigration and then you see that they owe us.
