In pursuit of the ever-popular Beltway sport of False Equivalence, it’s common to see today’s left-bent resistance to Donald Trump compared to right-wing extremist movements of the recent past, from the tea party movement to precincts further off in the fever swamps. This sort of talk is often the product of laziness or malice. But now and then something happens that makes left-right parallels unavoidable and accurate. One such incident, surprisingly, comes from the loose lips of a member of Congress, New York’s Tom Suozzi. According to the New York Post, the Nassau County Democrat had this to say about the remedies available to deal with Donald J. Trump during a town hall meeting last week:

Those that are ardent believers in the Constitution are also constrained by their belief in law and order of the constitution. When and if those constraints are removed by the actions of the other side and the refusal of government to enforce constitutional law, all hell will break lose.
It will not be good. We did this once circa 1860 in the civil war. It ripped the heart of our nation apart. I pray this does not happen. I fear it will.
If such happens it will not be like the Civil War which was army against army. The next one will be the collapse of central authority and basically political unrest. At that point we will no longer become a nation and outside forces will then take their advantage over us. They might win.
Wait a minute, didn’t stooge media try to crucify Trump because he mentioned the 2nd Amendment in response to the bitch in one of their 2016 debates? Oh, this is different?

If by “rooftops” you mean “high-ground” then yes, but shooting from an actual rooftop leaves the shooter exposed and there are limited exit routes.

When I left Philly for the comfort of Florida there were 800,000 deer hunters in PA. IIRC, there were over 800k in Michigan, too. Would venture a guess at 95% conservative voters in that group.

I retired from the army and have been a defense contractor since then. I watch and listen to the officer corps every day...and they are vastly left leaning in the field grade ranks. It’s not the officer corps that made up the army I retired from.

So do I and it depends on where you are in the nation. A majority in Army, USMC and Navy I deal with are right leaning.
