Yes, mobsters are probably more realistic. Look at some of the folks who refused to plead in the college entrance scams. They knew they had done it - which means “guilty” to most mortals - but they thought they were special and justified in doing it, somehow. And now they’re looking at federal time.

The federal system tilts heavily toward the government these days. Federal prosecutors commonly make their first plea offer their best plea offer, with the terms of later offers, if any, being worse for the defendant. Affluent white-collar defendants are not used to being treated like that.
