Current production Kimbers are pretty bad. Of the five bought by friends in the last three years, 100% required the intervention of a gunsmith to run properly.

We have a set of Kimbers, both stainless variants, and neither one has given us a single issue. Sorry your friends had such trouble. Ours did require a few hundred rounds to smooth things out but other than that they run like sewing machines.

I love my 1911. When I bought it I didn’t know the reputation of Kimber or the others, Colt was WAY expensive, but Remington I knew. So I bought the 1911R1, and have had no issues with it.

I found that the 1911 is a little large and heavy for me to conceal carry, so now I carry an M&P compact .45. One issue, cover the grips with heat shrink they are like having nonskid against your back.

Can you recommend a well made 1911? I have some cash burning a hole in my pocket and am in the market. Likely looking to buy this weekend or next.

I'm not well versed on the different manufacturers and am an HnK bigot when it comes to sidearms. This will be my first non-HnK sidearm purchase.

Interesting.

I’ve recently purchased a Kimber Micro 9 and put a couple of hundred rounds through it last weekend. I fired all the weird 9mm rounds that other 9s have choked on, and it worked flawlessly. That’s standard brass-cased FMJ, poly-coated heavy Russian sub-sonics, short-jacket hollow points, 85gr frangibles, and some other off brand stuff.

Overall, I’m totally impressed with the quality on this thing — fit, finish, and firing.

I’ve been carrying a Ruger SR1911 for a couple years with a shoulder holster (and my chiropractor has been giving me a bunch of crap about it) so I’m shifting to the Kimber for EDC.

I also have a RIA 5” that’s the ‘fun gun’ beater, and both the RIA and the Ruger will feed-fail with the crappy Russian short-jacket hollowpoints and the more ‘square tipped’ premium hollowpoints despite mirror-polished feed ramps.

So I dunno... Send me a Kimber 1911 and I’ll try it out.

I bought a Kimber Target 2 just a few years ago. I have put the required 500 rounds of 230 gr hardball through it without a hiccup. The only issue I ever had was a FTF with a certain brand of aftermarket magazine. The only thing I don’t like is the “match grade” trigger fit seems a bit sloppy.
