Another great design decision. Make doors that can't unlock manually. Granted, any device, mechanical or electric, can fail, but this bit here is the type of "feature" I detest.

PD requisition: 1,000 of those window-breaky thingies to outfit every patrol car

"Tesla Model S doors wouldn't unlock as driver burned to death inside..."

Does this count against Tesla's carbon footprint?

What a horrible way to go.

Don’t the folks that design these cars ever think about real life situations that come up with their vehicles when operating them?

Life is not a test lab.

Sheesh.

Locks and door handles may have had nothing to do with his being trapped. In a crash it is possible for the doors to be physically jammed shut whether or not there is power.

I am utterly baffled that cops don’t carry a tactical pen with a window-breaker tip in their breast pocket. You never know when you’re going to come across a frantic woman with her kid accidentally locked in the car on a hot day begging somebody/anybody to just break it, been in that situation before. With one of those, a 7 year old could break out a side window. Instead YouTube is full of videos of cops beating a car’s side window with a baton and being unable to break it. Not smart.

Tesla Catches Fire Again At Tow Yard In Campbell

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0nHXmKVqx4E

The firefighter states that they spent 5 to 6 hours extinguishing the fire after the initial crash. The car was taken to a tow yard, and it caught fire again, and the fire department had to be called for the second time.

I absolutely and unreasonably loathe Teslas.

Well, maybe not so unreasonable after all...

Locked doors on any car would prevent someone from opening them, that has nothing to do with whether they’re retractable or not.

That’s why fire and rescue routinely break windows to remove incapacitated individuals from vehicles.

Something’s not right about this story.
