Democrats "may end up walking away" from their effort to impeach President Donald Trump, predicted Doug Burns, who is a former federal prosecutor in the Criminal Division of the Eastern District of New York and a practicing attorney.
On Fox Nation's "Deep Dive" Wednesday, Burns said that the "elephant in the room" is that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., opted not to ask the full House of Representatives to vote on the question of opening a formal impeachment inquiry into President Trump. Instead, Pelosi announced that an impeachment inquiry had begun, breaking precedent regarding these proceedings.
"You don't have to be a rocket scientist or an MIT professor to know that they didn't do a vote because they didn't want to have [Democratic House members] stand up in districts that were against it and have to vote for it," said Burns, adding that some moderate Democrats are hesitant to declare their support for impeachment.
He predicted that Democrats will eventually abandon their impeachment push.
"I think they're going to come out and [say]... 'We do not want to put the American public through this type of debacle. However, of course, it's fully warranted,'" Burns said.
"There's always a rhetorical flourish for everything, which achieves your goals semantically and rhetorically," he added.
Wall Street Journal editorial board member William McGurn said he is skeptical of Burns' theory.
"I don't see how... Mrs. Pelosi, once she's taken this step, I don't see how you can do it and I think if you don't impeach the president, it looks like another Mueller report," argued McGurn. "All these promises, 'We're gonna get him. We finally got him on the ropes and we don't do it.' I find it hard to believe the House won't impeach."

I actually this this prediction might be right. Imagine all of the clandestine meetings (Schiff, Pelosi, & Schumer, at least), hand-wringing, etc. going on.
They are trying to figure out how to back out of this, while still ensuring that the MSM continues to insist that POTUS is guilty, and that they can carry that theme over to election day November 2020.
But yes, I expect they will announce it in some manner to suggest that they are doing us a favor by abandoning the impeachment effort. They are just trying to set up and/or come up with the next several scandals, to take the place of the impeachment hysteria on the MSM evening and Sunday hews programs.

An impeachment vote by the Democrat House will destroy the entire Democrat Party. Pelosi will be fully blamed and tagged with this failure throughout all of history. She has already failed as the Speaker of the House, miserably!!! Her legacy is at stake, if she even has one with any positives attached to it.
She still has ample time to halt Schiff, dead cold and work with Trump on key, needed legislation to serve the American public...but..her time is running out. She needs to do a 180 degree turn right now!!! And, ban Adam Schiff as she has done with Jerrold, “the Moron” Nadler!!!

Bottom line is that the AOC-loving socialist whackjob base of that party pulls Nancy’s puppet strings. Not vice-versa. She won’t drop it because they won’t let her.
I understand the reasoning but I still think they’re going to do it. They have to do it. Their Crazy Base is demanding it and as Captain Willard said about Colonel Kurtz, something about the jungle wanting him dead and that’s who he ultimately takes his orders from.

I agree, they’ll milk it as long as they feel it’s not going south on them and then they’ll end it one way or the other.
Seems to me all the DEMs are in unison that there is reasonable basis to begin an inquiry. See call record and yarn spun around the call record. Have a vote, the DEMs have a majority, it passes, and then further investigation can be conducted out of public view.
She has no intention of ever putting impeachment to a vote, at least not before the 2020 election. The goal is to investigate Trump until the election while regularly leaking selective, out of context testimony to look like they have a case.
I don’t doubt that the democrat controlled House would vote to impeach if it ever came up for a vote. That was a foregone conclusion after the 2018 election, when that is what most democrats ran promising to do.
The problem is that if the House votes to impeach, then the House immediately becomes irrelevant. Everything then moves to the Senate, where Republicans will be able to subpoena the testimony of any witnesses that they want, including Obama and Clinton minions, and expose and publicly air all of the democrats’ machinations and conspiracies.
That is the last thing that any democrat wants, especially before the election.
I’ve been saying all along that if she had it to do over again, Pelosi would not have gone forward with the “impeachment inquiry.” She got played by Adam Schiff, and she knows it. He engineered this entire “whistleblower” account of the phone call, then told Pelosi the details of the conversation would be “devastating” if they were ever made public, giving them everything they need to remove the President from office. Pelosi took Schiff at his word, jumped the gun, and immediately announced the impeachment inquiry. Had Pelosi waited until she saw the actual transcript, she would have known the Democrats had nothing.
I think if Pelosi knew she had 218 votes rock solid she would be doing this in a straight fashion. Start in the Judiciary committee (Not the Intelligence committee!) with no Star Chamber secrecy bring it to the floor, debate then vote. I think she just wants to keep the “appearance of an impeachment process” going and never actually bring it to a head. Why? Keep her base energized! Keep the rabid rabid! Al in all a propaganda mill to continue to throw mud at Trump to influence the electorate. Why choose this tactic? Because they have nothing else!
They DID have an impeachment vote in July.
It failed by ~339-95.
No reason to think it’s going to reverse a few months later.
I hope the hell she keeps the impeachment action going. Within a few more weeks the backlash will start to have a lethal impact on rat candidates in contested congressional districts. Trump can handle any damage as soon the Federal prosecutor, Durham, will be starting to indict the movers in the coup and the FBI cats that illegally used FISA to spy on Trump campaign officials like George P. How’s that for a run on sentence? lol
The DEMS do not want an open vote, or anything else open for that matter regarding this... that’s been obvious from the start.
I don’t believe they will back off however, as I believe this whole thing is about Democratic internal politics, not Trump at all.
After all why impeach over UKRAINE???? They claim is lawless and done countless things, but this? A phone call he’s already publicly released??? Why?
There is no calculus where D’s win on this, impeachment will never get a conviction in the Senate, and will fire up Trump’s base to DEFCON5, it alienates the disenfranchised Ds and I’s ensuring a slaughter in the 2020 election... So, why do it? and why do it NOW?
Simple... its about knee capping he hard left in the democrat party.
If the party runs a perceived moderate and loses, the radical left wing simply argues “WE DIDN’T GO FAR ENOUGH LEFT” and continues to gain power and influence... if however they run a far left whackadoo and get slaughtered, that argument is done and the party can and will moderate for the 2024 election when they actually have a shot at winning the white house.
The Ukraine impeachment is about taking out Biden, ensuring a radical leftist gets the nomination so they can lose big, so it knee caps the far left of the D coalition by giving them exactly what they want.
Once you get that, you understand all this nonsense... impeachment has NOTHING to do with Trump... its about knee capping the Socialist/AOC/Warren wing of the part.
