Two years ago, Target (TGT) said it would raise its minimum wage to $15 an hour by the end of 2020. The move won praise from labor advocates and put pressure on other companies to also move to $15.
But some store workers say the wage increases are not helping because their hours are falling, making it difficult to keep their health insurance and in some cases to pay their bills.
CNN Business interviewed 23 current and former Target employees in recent months, including department managers, who say hours have been scaled back even as Target has increased starting wages.
"I got that dollar raise but I'm getting $200 less in my paycheck," said one, Heather, who started in November at a Florida store working around 40 hours a week. She's now below 20 some weeks, she said. "I have no idea how I'm going to pay rent or buy food."

One punch will do you.........
They giveth then taketh away.
I was at a Albertsons grocery store several years ago and was getting my groceries checked out. I heard 2 clerks talking about their hours. One was getting 29/hrs and the other was 40/hrs that week. The 40/hrs was extra as they worked 29/hrs.
This was during the obama / democrat party new normal collapsing economy.
Yeah, I was afraid that might happen. The icon was going on and on with nothing [appearing to be] happening. Looked like it was hung.
Oh well, too bad I didn't write something seriously profound.
You are - in the self checkout lane.
Was in Walmart the other day. They were down to 5 regular registers and 20+ self checkouts. Oh, and only one cashier/lane open, with 8 people in line.
And at least you can say they are warned for sure, now. . .
Too bad, leftist Target employees. Live with your poor decisions and demands.

It's a meme created to make a point about raising the minimum wage.
It is not an actual real life example of some gal working in a restaurant.
But if you can't quite figure it out, I'll help you out.
No one is doing the work so the service in the restaurant suffers.
Or the place eventually closes because the owner can't absorb the higher labor costs associated with a mandated higher minimum wage.
Or whatever you want the answer to be because it is a frickin' meme.
I see you’re still pushing that voodoo economics.
Theyre getting the same money in a shorter span of work-time? They should be happy.
These are the same people who need to have the cash register tell them how much change to give the customer. Lucky for them so many customers use credit cards so there is no need to calculate and pay change.
...I was figuring staff were getting OT hours on top of regular before the wage increase. Still and all, as someone pointed out, they can use that extra time to work another job or search for better.
One of the casualties of the info age are the old "truisms". It is easy to research and dispel them.
The minimum wage is always $0.
Not according to the law it isn't.
It’s a stupid meme. Dumb.
The Law of Supply and Demand trumps all laws.
What happens is the GOPe insures flood of both illegal and legal immigrants never stops. They do this to suppress wages. This is the game that is being played and it leads to SOCIALISM.
My Kroger just increased its self checkouts and now has them at both exits. 16 all total. Most of the time there are only 2 or 3 regular checkout lanes open.
They have 1 person stationed at each of the 8 self checkouts to handle any problems or permit alcohol sales. 2 people for 16 checkout lanes. Lot of labor cost avoided.
Why?
