You are - in the self checkout lane.
Was in Walmart the other day. They were down to 5 regular registers and 20+ self checkouts. Oh, and only one cashier/lane open, with 8 people in line.
My Kroger just increased its self checkouts and now has them at both exits. 16 all total. Most of the time there are only 2 or 3 regular checkout lanes open.
They have 1 person stationed at each of the 8 self checkouts to handle any problems or permit alcohol sales. 2 people for 16 checkout lanes. Lot of labor cost avoided.
Sounds familiar. Our store did the same thing. I have a small grocery list, so don’t mind, but if you had 2 full carts, that self checkout could be a real bear. You don’t reap any benefits by doing their work.
