I’d be interested to know just how powerful the Irish American lobby is on the congressional trade committee and whether they can stop a trade deal as they have threatened to do if there is a no deal Brexit, Nancy Pelosi has also threatened this, so it might not all be in Trump’s hands.

We certainly need it to happen whilst Trump is in office (hopefully for another 5 years) because the next president is likely to be another globalist shill put forth by the RINO establishment that dropped the ball last time and understimated the threat Trump posed to their favoured candidates and of course, the Dems already know how to sabotage candidates who aren’t on board with globalism.

The cross border solution between the Us and Canada established over the past couple of decades is a defacto in-your-face prima facie evidence example to Ireland that systems work for the free flow of goods across borders.

There can be no credible protestation by Ireland because of existing system examples. They have no argument.

The only argument Ireland has is a fear of EU tariff retaliation and as posted above this would cause the Germans to lose the US market. Merkel was beside herself when Trump told her point blank that BMW would in effect be shut out by the US tariffs imposed on them.

Recently the US won a massive-massive lawsuit against the EU regarding trade that cannot be reversed. Even if the EU were to consider retaliating directly against the US, they are bound up legally.

The EU is beaten. Their problem is they were under an illusion set by Obama that they had the upper hand. Now they are realizing they have nothing to leverage. Juncker and his contingent will not go over completely to making deals with the Russians because they know from history that would be disastrous. They will be begging for a deal with Trump. They will not wait until after the 2020 election because it will be much worse for them.

Trump holds the cards, he has the greater power and knows how to use it.

I have seen the reports on the main aspects of the deal.

The U.K. will be better off in the long run with no deal, just an exit, period.

The deal has some EU concessions on trade, while the U.K. side makes concession after concession putting the EU over the U.K. sovereignty, parliament and laws on matters about the military, foreign affairs, some trade matters and law in general (still subject to the EU’s “court of ‘justice’ “).

I think Boris is trying to sell a pigs ear as a silk purse, just for his own personal sake of not losing face for failure to come up with a “deal”.
