Petraeus says US betrayed Syrian Kurds in 'sudden exit'

Former CIA Director and retired US Army Gen. David Petraeus said on Sunday the United States betrayed its longstanding ally in its fight against ISIS, the Syrian Kurds, by withdrawing US forces from the northern part of the country.

Petraeus, who previously oversaw military operations in Afghanistan and Iraq, criticized President Donald Trump's decision to withdraw US forces from northern Syria on CNN's "State of The Union."

"Well, I think we have abandoned our Syrian Kurdish partners. They took over 10,000 losses as the defeat of Islamic State was carried out," he told CNN's Jake Tapper. "The elimination of the caliphate that ISIS had certainly with our advice and assistance and enabling and then very suddenly, this is not a phased deliberate plan withdrawal, this is a very sudden exit."

All true. And they owe much of their success to the exceptional air power, artillery and ISR of the USA. Against the Turks, they quickly realized what it is like to be on the other side of that equation.

Yes, President Trump is upsetting the status quo and setting the stage for Syria to reoccupy Northern Syria as part of Syria which the US has been opposing

One potential and plausible reason for US opposition is kind of disturbing.

The entire rise of ISIS, supported in large part by President Obama and a Qatar/Saudi alliance, was intended to take control of that region away from Assad and place it under an ISIS Islamic proxy government controlled by members of the Qatar/Saudi alliance so Qatar could run oil and natural gas pipelines through Syria to directly and cheaply supply the EU with natural gas and oil which would break the Russian near monopoly on natural gas supply to Europe

Qatar has huge natural gas reserves but not as much in the way of oil reserves and the pipeline is the only economical means of transporting huge amounts of gas to the EU markets

Natural gas sales to Europe is the primary lifeline supporting the Russian economy at the moment and it’s loss would be near fatal to Russia’s economy. Preventing the building of a pipeline through ISIS controller Syria is the reason Putin was forced to intervene in Syria. He had no choice in the matter as the Russian economy was at risk

Trump successfully pushed the defeat of ISIS far faster than expected and is in a position to determine the post conflict status of the region.

His success also left the US backed Kurds in control of the critical disputed region in Syria.

Just because Qatar/Saudi backed ISIS failed to win control does mean they have given up on their goal and the American victory has fortuitously left the Kurds in de facto control of the region which is precisely what the pipeline faction were trying to accomplish with ISIS.

If they can back an independent Kurdish state that is aligned with their desires then they will have accomplished their goals in Syria despite the defeat of their ISIS proxy terror insurgents because the Kurds are now in the position where they hoped ISIS would be

Trumps pull out from Syria and ceding the region back to Assad’s control destroys the ambitions of those who wanted to take it from Assad to control oil supply lines to Europe

This is why there is such an outcry about Trumps policy in Syria. Those making the noise could care less what happens to the Kurds snd they were completely silent when ISIS was committing heinous war crimes and acts of genocide against the Kurds

Former CIA Director and retired US Army Gen. David Petraeus said on Sunday the United States betrayed

That was enuff for the msm.

Trump BETRAYED OUR ALLIES.

Petraeus was prosecuted for having confidential info on a personal server, screwing a writer, and giving her US confidential info.

The msm hate this guy, but today, and today only, he is useful.

What an asshole.

I posted pretty much the same a few days ago.

Note that Petraeus was the CIA Director who conceived Operation Timber Sycamore to arm dozens of Sunni Extremist Groups in Syria, many affiliated with Al Qaeda and ISIS, to overthrow Assad. Patraeus convinced Obama to support the operation, and Saudi Arabia to pay for it. Had Patraeus's plan worked, the Kurds would have been exterminated by the Sunni extremists once they succeeded in removing Assad.

In fact, NO ONE cared about the Syrian Kurds back then. Not Patraeus, not Obama, not Lindsey Graham, not John McCain, none of the people now crying that we have betrayed them. It was Trump who killed Timber Sycamore and moved all of our support to the Kurds.

Petraeus conceived and executed a war plan that would have given KSA and Qatar hundreds of billions of dollars in NG exports to Europe. Literally, 'Blood for Oil'. Trump spoiled that party, and THAT is why people are screaming.

Shared Top Secret materials with the biographist.

That’s what they nailed him on, not banging a groupie.

I’d say that’s betrayal of his oath of office.

But hey that’s just me.

Actually, he was doing both, sleeping with her AND leaking classified material.

He resigned over the affair and years later pleaded guilty to the leaks.

Since he betrayed what should have been the most important oath of his life (his wedding vows), it’s no surprise he cared little of his oath to his country.
