Above is an interesting article about the history of the Kurds. In some treaty in 1923 they were supposed to be given there own country after Britain and France(?) left the area - but that didn’t happen.
Ever since, they have gone to, and been used by, whomever might be able to help them have some autonomy. Israel and the Shah against the King of Iran at the time. Then against Iraq when Saddam first gained power, now against ISIS, etc.
The Kurds have been used as deep state mercenaries for a very long time.
