This is the first segment of AFGEs 5-part series: The Secret Memo : Inside Trumps Plan to Destroy Unions.
A leaked White House memo, as first reported by the New York Times and then obtained by POLITICO, outlines President Trumps plans to destroy public and private-sector unions, get rid of worker protections, cripple workers ability to organize, and increase profits for corporate special interests.
This explosive 19-page document was prepared in 2017 by Special Assistant to the President for Domestic Policy James Sherk, who was previously a research fellow at the regressive, anti-worker Heritage Foundation.
The memo, laced with familiar half-truths and outright lies, is proof that AFGE has been right all along in saying that the administrations true goal in making changes to personnel rules is to end collective bargaining in the federal sector. Its right there in their own words.
Federal workers are featured prominently in this hit piece as the administrations main target.
Also on the hit list are private-sector workers. Among other things, the memo discusses ways to make it impossible for workers to unionize. It details steps to boost corporations profits by cutting workers overtime pay and redefining workers as independent contractors. It explains ways to shield mega-corporations from being liable for workers poor working conditions in franchises.
The administrations divide-and-conquer strategy with respect to organized labor is as disgusting as it is shameful. But it wont work. Across this country, our members and the members of every other labor union are getting educated, organized, and mobilized.
As the largest union representing federal employees, AFGE will continue to resist the Presidents mob mentality and disrespect for the federal workforce and the work they do.
Next week we will go into detail of the administrations plan to end collective bargaining at various agencies, including DoD, VA, and TSA.
Outraged?
Not a bit;)
Way past time to rid us of govt employee unions.
Oh noes!!! How will I ever go on...?
Good thinking.
My understanding is that it was an Executive Order by JFK that enabled government unions. Has there been additional foundational legislation? Or can an EO be undone by a subsequent Presidential EO (unless, apparently, the President is Trump)?
Anyone who is dealt with any government agency of any size knows how inefficient and bloated they are. Go to your local DMV and tell me that you couldnt get rid of half the people there and still make no difference is customer service. Now imagine that level of Bureaucratic miss management and Incompetency at every large state and federal government agency. It is time to get rid of government unions
Sounds great to me!
First is there aren't 2 sides!!!
Its a self dealing con job.
Why do we allow the word leaked to be applied to made up stuff? It’s so secret only the “leaker” knows about it.
Not all of them, just SEIU, AFGE and AFSCME.
Trump only cares about public service unions, he could care less about unions outside of government!!! I agree with him there should not be unions in government!! I thought that unionizing government workers was done with an EO why in the hell doesnt he overturn that EO!!! He will cut government by 50% doing just that!!!
NEA,AFT;)
Who cares what the 6% of the population who are union members does or thinks? Soon there will be as many homosexuals as union members.
It is a long time since I have read any union propaganda. I had forgotten how they abuse language and logic.
If you are not Progressive you must be Regressive
If you are not Pro Union you must be Anti-Worker.
I know plenty of union members that are frustrated that unions protect the lazy and incompetent workers in their midst that make their work harder and more dangerous.
Then there are those that lie and blame others when they screw up.
Sometimes unions improve things but in my experience most of the time they cost workers more than they are worth.
...It has seven bullet points on firing federal employees. The administration is obviously not concerned about making the government more efficient, just how they can more efficiently get rid of career civil servants who have served their country honorably....
**************************************************
Not talking about front line employees who are probably mostly productive but certainly at the various staff and headquarter levels the federal government is loaded to the gills with non-productive employees. If more non-producers were fired some of the remaining slugs would be motivated to get busy.
To that end, theres no downside to finding ways to make terminating such federal employees easier.

Considering the source, I wouldn’t believe a word of it. This type of ploy has the same smell the other planted evidence had. Of course I hope it’s true Government workers, and I use the term workers cautiously, need to be brought down a few pegs, they should not average better pay and benefits than the working people who pay for it.
Yup,die unions die! There is zero reason let alone Constitutional authority for education and government to be unionized.
