You have probably heard about a so-called "vaping health crisis," complete with "horror stories" that are growing worse and worse. Over the past few months, more than 1,200 people have become sick and 29 have died from a mysterious acute lung disease. This has led national, state, and local politicians to demand bans on e-cigarettes to protect public health, often invoking emergency powers to implement them.
It has become increasingly clear that the wave of respiratory illnesses alarming health authorities is linked primarily to black market cartridges delivering THC, the psychoactive cannabinoid in marijuana, rather than the commercial nicotine vapor products that have been used by millions of people in multiple countries for more than a decade. Yet opponents of nicotine use have seized the opportunity to further enflame the moral panic around vaping...

My dad smoked 4 packs a day. I’m 66, alive and well. 2nd hand smoke didn’t kill me but there’s still time.
We have more than one of those preening moral busybodies right here on FR.
L
Right. Put down your vaping thing and go back to cigarettes.
More than one though one does certainly stand out.
*Disclosure: I never smoked in my life and resented having to pick up cigarette butts in the military.
No, as near as I can tell from the ones on Free Republic, one hundred percent of the anti vaping crowd wants smokers to die.
They admit that vaping helps people who haven’t been able to stop any other way give up cigarettes.
They concede (too many studies out there for plausible deniability) that far fewer vapers die than smokers.
It is constantly pointed out to them that most vaping deaths are traced to people using the devices to imtake all sorts of home mixed drugs and chemicals into their bodies...using them in the same way addicts use hookahs and bongs.
The rush to ban them entirely ignores both the lives saved by quitting cigarettes and the fact that addicts will always find ways to imbibe whatever intoxicants they desire.
In general, the antivapers cannot be reasoned with.
Vapor is nothing more than a flavored water and or, glycol with nicotine in various strengths.
A battery powered heating element turns the liquid to steam for inhaling. With the exception of the nicotine it’s not much different than inhaling the steam from boiling water or soup, etc...
There should be a moral panic around vaping. The results of 30%+ of High School students vaping is that they become addicts. They grow into adults and are unable to shake the addiction.
It’s NOT a conservative value to support turning teens into addicts.
Tobaccophobic bigotry is an ugly thing.
I quit a 30 year smoking habit with vaping, and I still enjoy the scent of burning tobacco.
Leave adults be to enjoy our lives.
And yet these same people are perfectly fine with people smoking pot. It’s just cigarettes and nicotine that are bad after all.
CDC gives vaping-related lung illnesses a name: EVALI

...1,299 cases of EVALI reported; 26 people have died...
...have yet to pinpoint any one product or ingredient responsible for the illnesses...
...more than 80 percent of cases involving THC products...
...officials focusing on thickeners and additives in black market THC cartridges...
As a lifelong nonsmoker, I don’t have a dog in this fight but what I don’t quite understand is why so many liberal/left tobacco opponents have no problem with marijuana. From what I understand something like 80% of those suffering from these vaping illnesses admit that they were using dodgy THC vapes that contains God-only-knows-what chemicals. (And the other 20% are probably lying about it.) Yet the answer seems to ban Juul and similar products and ignore the marijuana issue. Where I live (San Francisco), the politicians rail agains Juul and Big Tobacco and unanimously pass ordinances against them... and yet have never met pro-pot legislation that they didn’t love. What gives? My personal theories are that (1) a lot of these left-wing politicos are dopers themselves; and/or (2) they promote marijuana because they want a population that is stoned and stupid and amenable to their bulls—t.
Tax it like cigarettes . All the politicians will defend vaping
I have never seen an anti-vaporer here!
You will.
Its NOT a conservative value to support turning teens into addicts.
Thats wisdom.
We should get together over a cuppa and discuss the depravity of those addicted to and/or pushing mood altering drugs.
Do you take cream or sugar? I like iced black.
Quit cigarettes in March of 86.
The company I worked for delivered a new Chevy Caprice for me to drive.
It smelled so good I couldnt bring myself to smoke in it so I quit.
You are right on.
Now, go police the area! Just kidding.
