A New Jersey professor suggested on a TV program that racism and President Donald Trumps policies are responsible for black female obesity.
Rutgers University womens and gender studies professor Brittney Cooper made the argument during an appearance on Black Women OWN the Conversation on the Oprah Winfrey Network.
"I hate when people talk about Black women being obese," Cooper said on the program. "I hate it because it becomes a way to blame us for a set of conditions that we didnt create."
"We are living in the Trump era," the professor said. "And look, those policies kill our people. You can't get access to good health care, good insurance."
Cooper said that research points to black women losing less weight and at a slower rate than do white women, claiming that public health practitioners tie increased stress to a change in metabolism.
"It's literally that the racism that you're experiencing and the struggle to make ends meet actually means the diet don't [sic] work for you the same," she adds.

I’m beginning to think that Trump has replaced ‘climate change’ for all of the problems in the world.

It is true that stress affects metabolism and other things being equal can lead to weight gain. This heavyweights blaming Trump, however, ignores the last fifty years of black obesity and reveals just how ignorant she is about racism. Like most Blacks, she probably has never actually encountered racism face to face. But shes a perfesser now, so reality doesnt matter.

I thought it was “food deserts” that caused this. Are they calling the Trumpster a food desert?
To: Zakeet
My first thought was there were no fat, black women before President Trump? My second thought was lipstick on a pig.
To: Zakeet
You know it's because that fat cow,who was a fat cow even before Ol' Bathouse Barry and the Mooch infested the White House, can't take personal responsibility for her rotundity so.........TRUMP!

"Gender" also ruins it, unless it's a grammar class.
Oh wait, they can't teach that anymore, it would be racist.

I havent a clue who any of THEM are.
They were prominent cast members on prime time sitcoms in the '70s from "That's My Mama", "What's Happening!" and "Good Times". There also shows with regular sized black women (Julia, Sanford and Son), but the shows listed plus others (The Jeffersons) had some big women in there.

“Prof ties black female obesity to Trump policies, racism”
makes sense, because everyone knows that there weren’t any fat black chicks before Trump was elected ...

Question: You know how you can tell diet drinks don’t work?
Answer: Because you only see fat people drinking them.

How nice of Oprah to give this moron a platform on her network. But then again the two of them have something in common and it’s not the color of their skin.

The irony is that by giving this moron a platform, Oprah is implying that her product, WW, would be useless to black women while Trump is president...\
Way to torpedo sales Oprah!

I've heard of Sanford & Son, and the Jefferson's, although I never saw them. Those other shows I never even heard of.
I guess missing TV in the 70's was no great loss.

I can believe “she ate the whole thing”.
Rutgers women professors are just as nutty and Marxist as their male counterparts, but they just sound stupider. Must take a lot of practice.

If Prof. Cooper wants to lose weight, do it the way I recently did (unexpectedly). Have pancreatic cancer - have part of your liver and pancreas taken out. I can guarantee you that you’ll lose 40 pounds in no time.
In your case, take out your brain, that should guarantee another lose of 8 ounces.
