Considerable more than they will ever net from the proposed Chiraq casinos.
Over a $1B? Gee, do they have the yellow light times set for a nanosecond? Feed that government and the Illinois government employee their money....they are HUNGRY.
What??? Illinois is corrupt? Who’d a thunk it?
Here is an idea for Chicago ... put a red light camera at the intersections closest to Obama’s history museum. Heap big money potential there!
$1,000,000,000 accumulated at $100 per ticket/fine is 10,000,000 tickets issued over a 10 year period ... that’s 1,000,000 tickets issued per year. WOW, that’s a massive amount of people running red lights! ... and not every intersection is equipped with cameras!
Yet, they say the state is broke.
Stop running red lights and their revenue will dry up.
Just a thought.
“Austin Berg”
No Alec Berg, but a nice try for a John Houseman-sounding name, I guess.
More cash stripped from the private sector.
Great job.
Who needed the jobs that $1 billion would have helped to save or create?
I’d brag about that... /s As if...
It’s all going to get worse as technology “advances”. Government is absolutely devious and adaptable to use it to stick it to the people.
Mississippi kicked this scam out of the state. The red light cameras are unconstitutional as one cannot face ones accuser in a court of law. There is no lawful repercussions if one refuses to pay the fine either because the law hasn’t been followed. Local Tennesseans have quit paying the fines they receive in the mail because there is no teeth in the accusation other than a mail in threat from Arizona. They aren’t going to take you to court locally because it will cost too much and it is literally unconstitutional.
Running a red light in Orange county Florida will cost you $262!
To paraphrase the toll road shills (more likely being paid) that used to be here to support Rick Perry trying to privatize our freeways:
“With a red light camera you have a choice: If you’re in a hurry, you can risk the ticket, if you’re not in a hurry, then no ticket”.
Of course the above simplification doesn’t get into things like the ‘flexible’ timing of the yellow light, and other specifics...
I got dinged by them. Well, toll road toll violation. Got a letter in the mail telling me to pay up. Thing is, the last time is was in Illinois, was probably in the 80s.
So I called and disputed it. They sent me a copy of the photo that they said was mine. It was a Volvo, pic was at night, and it was a front plate. Indiana doesnt have front plates and I dont own a Volvo. I pointed out these discrepancies to the worker droid at the Illinois toll authority And he said it happens more than you might think. He cleared it up for me and a week later I got a letter with $0 balance due.
Cameras and characters recognition are pushing cheap revenue enhancements for states.
In Washington state the tickets by camera dont go on your record so, people just pay them because its not worth the hassle.
I was nabbed by one, I watched the video where I obviously rolled a red light on a right turn.
Doh!
How nice for public coffers.
Its just so damn immoral and unseemly, like lotteries for public school money.
This is actually one thing Chicago is doing right. I see an increase in people running red lights and we have had some nasty auto accidents as a result.
