Californians are learning to live like the Amish after investor-owned utility PG&E this week shut off power to two million or so residents to prevent wildfires amid heavy, dry winds. Blame the states largest blackout on a perfect storm of bad policies.
For years the utility skimped on safety upgrades and repairs while pumping billions into green energy and electric-car subsidies to please its overlords in Sacramento. Credit Suisse has estimated that long-term contracts with renewable developers cost the utility $2.2 billion annually more than current market power rates.
PG&E customers pay among the highest rates in America. But the utility says inspecting all of its 100,000 or so miles of power lines and clearing dangerous trees would require rates to increase by more than 400%.
Meantime, opposition to logging and prescribed burns in Californias forests compounded by a seven-year drought has yielded 147 million dead trees that make for combustible fuel.
Wildfires last year produced more CO2 than the states businesses, homes and farms, offsetting state emission reductions in 2017 nine times over. Environmental regulators responded to the report by claiming that carbon from burned trees is more natural than from combusted fossil fuels. Perhaps theyve inhaled too much of their own smoke.

So now we have carbon dioxide that is more natural than other carbon dioxide. This brilliant statement comes from the environmental wackos that are promulgating the policies that are responsible for the fires and blackouts.
Nauseating. Truly.
Bkmk electric
Environmentalists also ignore the sun, which puts out a billion times more energy every second than man has every put out in his existence, whether you believe in a 6000 year existence or a 100,000 existence.
The state supports its progressive utopian schemes with massive debt, low interest rates and stock bubbles in its largest tech companies. A future financial and debt crisis will knock Leftist California on its @ss. Let it come soon.
Apologies to Cali mates, but your state must crash and burn before some common sense takes hold. It appears they’re well on their way.
Even CO2 is not equal among lefties. Idiots.
They are reaping what theyve sewn right now. And its only going to get worse.
Maybe Nicholas Maduro of Venezuela can exile in California.
At this rate, in a few more years, Newsom’s Socialist nirvana will resemble today’s Venezuela disaster.
The Green Dream.
Californians would rather not cut down trees. They prefer they burn along with their homes.
Tonight, progressives party like its 1899.
California does not need to support this big electric company. Apparently they can afford to give very large bonus checks to their executives rather than trim trees and otherwise secure their assets.

Just a warning to California: Venezuela still has not hit rock bottom.
My friends in Caracas tell me the power is on for 30 minutes every night. That’s better than what we have in California! Maybe Maduro can give us some tips.
And the CO2 from burning pot is the most natural of all. LOL
PG&E bonds crashed to zero about 6 months ago.
I owned them in a large bond fund, so my loss was only about 1% of my principal.
My fund buys 5-10 year investment grade corporate bonds.
As I recall, PG&E was still investment grade until a court decided it was 100% liable for one of those huge California fires they had a couple summers ago.
And yet their privileged “officials and commissars” live like kings.
“Environmental regulators responded to the report by claiming that carbon from burned trees is more natural than from combusted fossil fuels.”
At least that is true. Irrelevant, but true.
They’re not living like 1899; they’re living like they’ve been transported to North Korea.
