Syria’s army deployed near the Turkish border on Monday, hours after Syrian Kurdish forces previously allied with the U.S. said they had reached a deal with Damascus to help them fend off Turkey’s invasion.

The announcement of a deal between Syria’s Kurds and its government is a major shift in alliances that came after President Donald Trump ordered all U.S. troops withdrawn from the northern border area amid the rapidly deepening chaos.

Just get our b 61 s out of turkey pronto. Turkey has no business in any part of Syria. Syria is a rusky client state. Unless erdogen has a deal with Putin over this incursion it will be dangerous for us through NATO ENTANGLEMENT. Russia has always wanted a dardonneles free passage. My guess is this can push NATO and us out because turkey and Russia have a behind the scenes arrangement. Turkey did a deal with Putin recently over the S 300 I believe over our objection. That is a strong indicator to me of shifting sands in that area.

The neo cons always look like the dupes and uninvited guest to the shooting party. They are like that side-kick joker any one in Syria can pit to their side to make their side win, the last ones being the Marxist Kurds who keep using this conflict solely to post on Facebook ideological propaganda - a very narcissistic ideology.

Considering that his ultimate aim is to survive and maintain his rule in Syria, he is very much the winner. Assad before the Arab spring was potentially a workable partner for the west, if not exactly an ally, however, if the west was going to go the way of ‘Assad must go’ they needed to follow through on that rhetoric, instead of being half assad (couldn’t resist) about it and allowing him to stay in place. America and the west need to decide whether they are interventionist or not, if we are going to intefere and intervene, do it properly or not at all instead of doing just enough to fk things up and then leave a power vacuum to be filled by enemies of the west.

Would be an interesting sales job....video tape the action showing Turkish vehicles destroyed by Syrian-operated and Russian-trained forces.

Absolutely

This is no doubt part of Trumps strategy- get Turkey tied down in a wasteful and unpopular intervention in Syria

I agree, especially Saudi Arabia, I don’t want us there.
Saudis have on paper one of the most modern military and
they don’t need us defending them.

“The only question here....does Russia just stand back and be entertained, or does it provide support for Assad?”

I think Russia brokers the peace deal.

Erdogan will be satisfied with Assad clamping down on the militant Kurds in Syria as long as the United States stops interfering with the process.
+++++
I hope you are correct about that. The deal that the Kurds made with the Syrian government sure looks like a major Kurd concession to me.

And hopefully enough for Erdogan as well. But if not, this could turn into a major war.

Smart move on Trump’s part. Let Syria take care of its on country. We are not the cops for the world while other countries don’t even try to take care of their own. Throw them in the creek and let them learn how to swim to save themselves.

Maybe Syria will deploy some of their WW2-era Panzers. They probably still run.

One bright spot in this mess is that it makes Erdogan look like the monster he is. Also maybe we can get Turkey kicked out of NATO or disband NATO altogether.

Return Syria to what it originally was. What a radical idea.

President Trump’s tweets this morning:

Brian Kilmeade over at @foxandfriends got it all wrong. We are not going into another war between people who have been fighting with each other for 200 years. Europe had a chance to get their ISIS prisoners, but didn’t want the cost. “Let the USA pay,” they said...

....Kurds may be releasing some to get us involved. Easily recaptured by Turkey or European Nations from where many came, but they should move quickly. Big sanctions on Turkey coming! Do people really think we should go to war with NATO Member Turkey? Never ending wars will end!

The same people who got us into the Middle East mess are the people who most want to stay there!

Happy Columbus Day!

Russia hates Turkey. I don’t think sanctions will be necessary

What were we going to do with our “ influence’” in Northern Syria?
A handful of US troops with a no-offensive combat ROE?
The only value of our influence is/was to retain Kurdish support fir fighting ISIS and - eventually - challenging Assad.

In return we are supposed to look like we are going to support an independent Kurdistan carved out of the Syrian and Iraqi oilfields, Turkey, and Iran,
Not. Gonna, Happen,

Trump is finally an honest man,

*** The only question here....does Russia just stand back and be entertained, or does it provide support for Assad? ***

Russia is in it, and I hope they kick Turkey’s butt.

Now, USA get out of Syria. Get out of Al Tanf. Get out of Deir Ezzor.

Sorry the neocon dream of turning Syria into Libya or Iraq was dashed. /S
