How do we know that the Muslims didn’t deliberately infect the pigs in order to wipe out an unclean animal and to starve the Chinese? Or as revenge because of the Chinese treatment of the Uyghurs (Wigers)?
Finally a use for those feral hogs.
African Swine Sickness was in CUBA fifty years ago. The US asked Mexico not to trade for Cuban pork as it might eventually infect the US pork industry.
Read the the article, it does not mention that China owns Smithfield; so much for truth from Yahoo.
[[[If we dont have a strategic bacon reserve by now, why not?]]]
Its a bacon gap!
The price for a pound of bacon is outrageous now. Is the reason because we’re sending it to China?
So Hillary isn’t all over the pork belly futures market? Hasn’t she been reading the Wall Street Journal lately? How could such a pro in the future’s market miss out on one this big??
Well, if you need some pork go to an agricultural state and hunt feral pigs.
There’s no shortage.
I still have bacon in the freezer from the last bacon shortage crisis.
Besides...I’m holding out for Impossible Bacon.
Don’t forget the animal rights fanatics. Years ago they tried to infect US herds of cattle with Hoof and Mouth disease from England.
They might try the same with Chinese pork.
Their motto seems to be that it is alright to kill the animals with disease as long as we don’t humanely kill and eat the animals.
I’m going to become the next Fred Ziffle and make a fortune.
first we have to worry about Parmesan cheese and now bacon...
You are right. Any “shortage” will be rectified by the free market. No need to panic.
________
"Pig futures are up!"
"Pig futures? Pigs don't have much of a future."
I’ve been in the pork business ever since graduated from college (some 40 years. Even worked for Smithfield for a short period of time, and I say don’t you believe it.
Market manipulation is all part of the game and that’s exactly what they’re doing here. Granted ASF is killing hogs but it’s always something ie. HBS, Parvovirus, Coccidiosis, pernicious dysentery etc etc,....It’s always something.
Because the chicoms just signed the big Ag deal to raise US consumer prices. Great deals mr trump.
Finally the pork producers and related industries get a break here in the US.
High prices for food was why Farm Programs were instituted in the 40's and 50's.
The objective was to keep food prices low for the voters, your complaint is an example of that.
The programs have been very successful, not only do consumers have cheap & plenteous food, but the farmers are the bad guys.
