Fox News chief news anchor Shepard Smith is leaving the conservative cable network after 23 years, it was announced Friday.
Smiths appearance Friday on Shepard Smith Reporting was his last appearance on the network, according to Fox News. In addition to working as chief news anchor, Smith had been managing editor of the networks breaking news unit.
Smiths departure follows a report that he was warned last month by Fox News CEO Suzanne Scott and network president Jay Wallace not to criticize the networks evening anchor Tucker Carlson again.
Smith had said on the air that it was repugnant for Carlson not speaking up in defense of Fox News contributor Andrew Napolitano after a Carlson guest, attorney Joseph di Genova, called Napolitano a fool for saying that President Donald Trump had broken the law. Di Genova is a legal adviser to Trump.

A Test Pattern would be better!!
Recently I asked the company to allow me to leave FOX News and begin a new chapter. After requesting that I stay, they graciously obliged. The opportunities afforded this guy from small town Mississippi have been many, Smith said in a statement. Its been an honor and a privilege to report the news each day to our loyal audience in context and with perspective, without fear or favor. Ive worked with the most talented, dedicated and focused professionals I know and Im proud to have anchored their work each dayI will deeply miss them.
Shep is one of the premier newscasters of his generation and his extraordinary body of work is among the finest journalism in the industry. His integrity and outstanding reporting from the field helped put FOX News on the map and there is simply no better breaking news anchor who has the ability to transport a viewer to a place of conflict, tragedy, despair or elation through his masterful delivery, said Jay Wallace, President & Executive Editor of Fox News Media, in a statement.
We are proud of the signature reporting and anchoring style he honed at FOX News, along with everything he accomplished here during his monumental 23-year tenure. While this day is especially difficult as his former producer, we respect his decision and are deeply grateful for his immense contributions to the entire network.

Butt, ‘conservative network’? Back in the day perhaps with still a few bright spots.
Fox News chief news anchor Shepard Smith is leaving the conservative cable network after 23 years
He’s leaving a conservative network?
I thought he worked at FOX?
He always reminded me of Adam Ant (80s pop ‘star’).
A Test Pattern would be better!!
= = =
In my day, the test pattern was an . . . eek . . .
Indian Chief!
The bad news is they hired his replacement don lemon!!
LOL!!! It WAS!!
You have to post to admin to get them to see it.
I just feel sorry for his parents.
Who will cover all those riveting car chases now?
No doubt Cavuto, another Fox drama queen, was grief stricken.
“In that story Smith, 55, acknowledged his relationship with 31-year-old Giovanni Graziano.”
[Shep was 40 when GG was 16.]
Just a few days ago I was wondering how much longer Fox would allow an hour of advertising and viewership to go empty.
Well, I for one am heartbroken. I wonder if Judge Nappy is going to follow him. Are they a couple?
HOORAY — thank you Joe Di Genova. And President Trump for not holding back!
Now Fox, get rid of Napolitano. He wanted to be a Supreme Court pick and was rejected by Trump. FIRE HIM if you don’t want to be discarded to the ash heap of history, alongside Matt Drudge.
