--Why We Wrote This--
What drives a passion for guns? For one man, it started in childhood and continues with loyalty to a cause if not to the giant organization hes fighting to clean up.

A retired millionaire, Mr. Dellaquila could afford to hire enough workers and equipment to turn his 862-acre ranch into a hunting and fishing redoubt. But thats not work, and work sweaty, hazardous, dusty outdoor work is what makes him tick when hes out here. This is where I come up with my best ideas, he says.
Lately those ideas have been targeted at the National Rifle Association, of which Mr. Dellaquila is a lifetime member and, until recently, a financial supporter. Today he regrets his past generosity to a group whose stated mission to defend the right to bear arms is one he avows as his own. Mr. Dellaquila wants to see the NRAs scandal-plagued management gone and is putting his broad shoulder to the wheel, using financial and legal pressure to force reform.
[ * * * ]
The real threat to the NRA for decades, one of the most powerful lobbying groups in the United States may be from a handful of members who want to blow up the organization from the inside.
In this case, however, they arent trying to make the lobbying group impotent. They want to make it stronger and gun rights even more inviolate. Mr. Dellaquila is one of the most resolute members of this growing internal revolt by gun lovers against the leaders of a nonprofit that is a synecdoche for U.S. civilian ...

Any thoughts from the freeperverse as to whether this guy has the right notion about the NRA or not?

“the worlds most powerful gun lobby”
*Sigh* Do people realize that if the NRA was gone tomorrow we would STILL have a CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS?? We do not have that right because the “NRA lobbys”.

NRA needs a thorough audit by an outside accounting firm. Now! We need this mess corrected prior to campaign season. Up coming election far to important to have this garbage going on. Get it settled!

It’s scandal plagued when being written about by liberals. Otherwise not so much.

i am a LIFE member of the NRA not a lifetime member...
the second amendment is because of God, not the NRA...
one does not lobby for a constitutional right... one tries to protect it.

Since when is the NRA scandal plagued? Since it was revealed that Wayne La Pierre spent millions on himself and his wife, paid their public relations firm Ackerman McQueen around $40 million per year, and forced the outster of NRA President Oliver North and NRA-ILA Director Chris Cox.
In short, Wayne La Pierre has done what liberal anti gun activists have failed to do: Ruin the NRA from the inside.

Im guessing hes GTG. He wants to get rid of La Pierre, which is priority no. 1 for me, And he seems to have the backing of some serious pro gunners like Randy Luth and Rob Pincus.

The scandal would be if Mr. LaPierre were wearing $1,800.00 suits.

I’m not a reader of the Christian Science Monitor. Does it refer to the Clinton Foundation as ‘scandal plagued’?

The price of the suits is not an issue so much as the way LaPierre and a few cronies are milking the NRA for million dollar salaries and then getting 300K of suits and other expensive benifits billed to contractors who then bill the NRA for the expense.
