The unpopular move sparked a run on supplies at stores and came after two years of catastrophic fires sent Pacific Gas & Electric into bankruptcy and forced it to take more aggressive steps to prevent blazes.
The drastic measure caused a wave of impacts, from long lines at supermarkets and hardware stores to backups at traffic lights that had gone dark. Schools and universities canceled classes, offices were closed and many businesses were shuttered.
With the sun shining, not a wisp of smoke in the air and only gentle breezes, the historic action was condemned by those inconvenienced.
Its unreasonable. Theres no wind. Its nothing. Theres no reason why they should shut the power off, said Joseph Pokorski, a retiree who had been drinking beers and cocktails by lantern light at the Town Square bar in Sonoma in the early morning. Theyre ... closing everything down so they dont get sued. They dont trim the trees, so we suffer.
More than 500,000 customers in Northern California were without power, the utility said, and about 300,000 more outages were planned later to prevent its equipment from sparking wildfires during winds forecast to build. About 2 million people were expected to be affected for up to several days.
To everyone asking, Wheres the wind? Wheres the wind? Dont worry, the wind is coming. Go for a hike above 4,000 feet and youll feel it, said Steve Anderson, a meteorologist with the National Weather Services Bay Area office. Obviously PG&E doesnt want to cut the power when theres already strong winds.
Before the lights went out in the East Bay town of Moraga, cars were lined up at gas stations and customers filled carts at the towns only supermarket with bags of ice, canned goods, loaves of bread, breakfast cereal and water.

Welcome to Calizuela.
To the people that are complaining: This is what you voted for. Enjoy it.
. Theyre ... closing everything down so they dont get sued. They dont trim the trees, so we suffer.
They don’t trim the trees because of the State and environmentalists. But the whole thing fits right in with Agenda 21.
If it will save just a single precious pine tree or yew, electricity for the entire state should be cut off.
We have had electric powerlines for years and all of a sudden there causing wild fires...
Well what happens when people die because there is no power..
Do we sue the power company forturning off the power..
Lokks like the slip and fall lawyers are going to make a lot of money
So I guess they decided to shut the lights out before the last person left California.
...to spur solar cell sales.
FR is in Fresno, hope Jims servers have good backup power.
How will the Tesla people get around...?
:-)
1. Vote in liberal idiots who make it impossible to cut or trim trees
2. Hold electric utility when trees near power lines catch fire and burn who towns
3. Sue said utilitiy for billions
4. Complain when utility shuts off power to prevent another wildfire.
Whaa, whaa, whaa... I’m so glad I moved to the South.
“Theyre ... closing everything down so they dont get sued.”
They’re already sued to bankruptcy level.
The good citizens should be proud that they are personally stopping global climate change. Maybe Greta can sail into the Bay Area and congratulate all of them for their noble act.
Now PGE cuts power to those same areas.
California wants to make it as difficult as possible to live outside the major cities.
“... Joseph Pokorski, a retiree who had been drinking beers and cocktails by lantern light at the Town Square bar in Sonoma in the early morning.”
LOL, my kinda guy.
To the people that are complaining: This is what you voted for. Enjoy it.

From us that live here...
This is what unrestricted voter fraud and massive illegal immigration got us, which we’ve been fighting against tooth and nail with zero help from our political “allies” and the Uniparty.
Thank you for being played.
Send Scoldilocks to tell them to enjoy the New Dark Age.
