Multiple protest groups are planning to hold counter demonstrations when President Trump hosts a campaign rally in Minneapolis on Thursday. Among those planning protests include Antifa.
In a call online, Antifa wants members of the "anti-capitalist bloc" to come out in force to disrupt the event.
"Trump is having a campaign rally in downtown Minneapolis. He wants to keep America great, but…AMERICA IS CANCELED. Join us to celebrate with an anti-capitalist bloc. Bring yourself, bring your friends, bring your crew and come prepared to disrupt the nightmare that is Trump," their message said.
Counter protests in response to Trump rallies have gotten to the point where police have needed to deploy anti-riot tactics. During an August 2017 rally in Phoenix, a video went viral after police shot a pepper ball at a protester, in the groin, who kicked a tear gas can back at them.

Maybe their objective is to provoke a shooting.

San Jose before the election to. Police literally stood and watched as Trump supporters were beaten and ran for their life.

That might work for the on duty uniformed police. Off duty non-uniformed PD have much the same ROE as any other random citizen at the rally. The right of self defense is absolute.

I attended a Trump rally in Michigan when a group of protesters attempted to disrupt the crowd watching outside on the big screen. When they started yelling through their bull horns, a LARGE group of what can best be described as “healthy young men of military age” started politely moving through the crowd toward the noise. The noise quickly ended, and the protesters were never heard again.
I suspect the cowardly ANTIFA crowd might meet their match (and then some).
In the event of hostilities, I hope our President has a force available, perhaps battalion of Marines or the air cav. which he can deploy under auspices of the insurrection act as amended.
