PG&E’s power shut-off watch for Northern California: Here’s what you need to know
San Fransicko Chronic ^ | 10/7/2019 | Michael Cabanatuan and Alejandro Serrano

Posted on 10/07/2019 5:52:34 PM PDT by Crazieman

Pacific Gas and Electric Co. said Monday that it might preemptively cut power this week to much of Northern California — including almost all of the Bay Area — to prevent power lines from sparking wildfires during dry and windy weather.

The shut-off watch, covering 29 of the state’s 58 counties, is unprecedented in scope and could grow as forecasts come into focus. Customers in parts of the counties could lose power as soon as Wednesday morning, and the watch extends through Thursday.

Seven of the nine Bay Area counties — all but San Francisco and Marin — were advised of the potential outage, along with the North Coast, the northern parts of the Central Valley and the northern and central Sierra and foothills. The company cited a “potentially widespread, strong and dry wind event.”

A shut-off watch precedes a warning of an actual planned outage.

My Mom & Dad and brother live in one of the ‘cut off zones’.
Both have generators for the refrigerators & freezers with fuel for a week or so.
They are p*ssed off...a good thing.

H-1B is a federal law, not related to any CA state officer.

“OF COURSE they are going to shut off the power.”

Yep. The residents of Cali demanded it. So, enjoy.

“The company is bankrupt and there is serious threat of charging company officers with criminal negligence. Even manslaughter.”

And the political class in California, who were all elected by California residents, had nothing to do with it. Nope. Not a thing.

“It’s NOT a function of being a “third world craphole” as you assert.”

It’ll be a while till Cali hits 3rd world craphole status. They’ll be at 2nd World Craphole for a few more years.

Let me tell you some of the problem with this. When the power is cut so is cell phone and internet. Now there is no communication to speak of. Here in Butte County some of use set up a GMRS Neighborhood Radio Watch system for this very purpose... how to get word of of a wildfire when power is cut...

You do not know the half of the problem us rural folks face when the power is cut. We have no water as the wells won’t run off a small generator. Now toilets can’t get flushed, etc, etc... We do have a hand pump on the well, but the well is way down in a pasture...

Now with the power out the creepy crawlers start coming around...Now what?

I am two hundred miles away from my wife and she has to handle it herself because I can’t leave this job to start a generator....

And we are the lucky ones.

Thanks for your concern...when what ever bumfuch state you live in has the least bit of problem, don’t come crying...afterall...you elected those critters and the rest of us can’t give a flip...

Thanks for being an true patriotic American....

Do you even understand the devastation that was wrought last year during the fire in Paradise? 27,000 people homeless, their homes burned to the ground in a morning and afternoon. An entire city gone.

This is why PG and E is doing this...I have fault with PG and E, but frankly what are they supposed to do...in light of the fact their power equipment burned a town to the ground.

Another ignorant posting. A connecting ring that was rusted that held the line/s snapped. The freaking stuff was a 100 years old. The lines arched. Witnesses saw it. 50 mile and hour winds casued those lines to sway and arch. Had nothing to do with communists...although I would like to blame them...It had more to do with poor maintenence of power lines in rural areas.

Another idiot poster. When the hurricane or tornado or whatever rips through your neck of the woods I will remember to line up and laugh at the dead and homeless.

What a maroon.

Can’t get blamed for wildfires if you’re not providing electricity.

So tonight, when we have high winds plus feral brush and trees that can’t be removed due to the eco killers.

The rat lawyers will not be able to sue PG&E for the wild fires caused by their eco killer buddies.

Which is “Why”, PG&E will turn off the electricity during the high winds.

People listen to AM and FM radio for emergency broadcast and evac orders. On battery power radios.

The weather is perfect. Nobody is going to roast or freeze.

And go where? I have five acres that I paid $80K for. Its worth maybe $130K now...I have been doing the same fairs for 20-25 years and built up a clientle that keeps me in meat money during the winter. I don’t have to put on the heat in the winter. I am above the fog and below the snow line. You tell me...I live here, I bought my property with my own sweat and hard earned money, and I own it... and I am supposed the run away? I am no sunshine patriot. You can stay in whatever hell hole you live. I am staying here and will laugh and dance whenever misfortune befalls somewhere else other than Butte County, California.

There are some real idiots here on FR...anything happens in California and you all hoop and dance and holler like its a holiday....pox on your house...

In the Midwest, we trim the trees back a bit.

And yes, we do have wildfires here.<<<

Yup!...Just like here in Maine....but once the global warming scientists solve “Lightning Strikes” well be home free!

High temperatures cause people to run their AC a lot which causes high electricity consumption which causes transmission lines to heat up which causes transmission lines to sag which causes the conductors to touch nearby trees which causes sparks which causes fire.
