The founders envisioned impeachment for anything the House could muster a majority for, and the Senate could muster 67 votes for removal.
It was designed as a political remedy for the country to remove a President, his officers and Judges.
Under-utilized IMHO.
And designed to be abused by those willing to suffer the penalty of the people.
The Founders were not ignorant of the folly of man.
That’s why Representatives stand for election every two years. To keep them in synch with the will of the people, and when they lose synch to quickly remove them.
I still say Democrats do not have the votes, or don’t WANT to have the votes to pass articles of impeachment.
I’m with you on the Dems not wanting a vote on this before next years election and they may not have the votes for the inquiry.
They’re happy to keep slinging mud and have the three committees tied up with this fiasco.
The way this procedure - extra-judicial but with judicial effect - is being conducted violates everything in the Constitution relating to judicial certainty, due process, a right to a defense, etc.
That said, I think its backfiring on them in a big way. For one thing, its called attention to Bidens misdeeds and also to Obamas continuing involvement in disruption.
So I think Trump is absolutely right to just go back to concentrating on governing - for example, getting us out of at least one part of the ME quagmire, working on the replacement for NAFTA, etc.
If he files suit at some point, I cant believe any of Pelosis maneuvers to make herself President would be found even remotely constitutional. Also, I think he has an ace up his sleeve and probably knows something that is going to make the Dems wish theyd never even heard the name Nancy Pelosi.
When it blows up, she blames him, the base forgives her.
It should be 2/3rds for the house too.
