There are better ways, economic ways, of dealing both with the EU and Turkey.

For example?

The military is not the cause of our budget deficits. Turn your eyes to the $1 trillion spent annually on means tested, anti-poverty programs by the federal government. Some things are being accomplished, but we should have a massive welfare to work effort going now with far more job openings than people stepping forward to fill them. And we should require that every job possible be filled by US citizens, not by issuing more work visas.

If you think the US can cease being a major military power in today’s world, then you’re kidding yourself.

How long should we protect Kurds? How involved do we want to be in a longstanding conflict between the Kurds and the Turks? The Kurds have been fighting what amounts to a civil war against Turkey for decades. The PKK has killed Turkish diplomats and citizens.

The Kurds were fighting ISIS to further their own interests. We aided them because we shared a common interest. When can we declare victory and go home? Right now we are in Syria against the wishes of the host government.

What is the purpose of those “small number” of troops? The recognized government of Syria doesn’t want us there.

Why do we assume that Turkey will succeed against the kurds?

I don't assume anything except that it's not a good idea to abandon an ally that just did most of the heavy fighting in defeating a mutual enemy. And reading in another article posted, the dispute is about how many kilometers the Kurd free buffer zone should be between northern Syria and Turkey.

Erdogan is throwing his weight around and trying to be the new caliph.

Trump promised to leave once ISIS was destroyed. How can we justify leaving troops in a country whose recognized government doesn’t want us there? This isn’t South Korea, Japan, or Germany.

That’s why we don’t intervene militarily in Syria.

We have been bombing Syria on almost a daily basis for over 5 years.

Looks awesome to me. Anyone who doesn’t like it can go join the Kurds and fight.

Amen, we have grand kids and great nephews/nieces who are in college or trades schools now.

We don’t need any more Viet Nams, Iraq or anything dealing with war in the middle east.

They don’t need to worry about getting killed or horribly wounded in body and soul in some shit hole to make more money for the elites.

Best point on this thread. If Congress wants to maintain troops in a sovereign country that does not countenance our presence, then let them vote on it.

Wow, there are some good things being posted today.

The sort of "looks bad" you have in mind can't be worse than looking stupid for still being there.

Then we can wave goodbye to them and say Adios and Good Luck!
