If European Union leaders thought there would be any flagging or hesitation from British Prime Minister Boris Johnson when the Brexit deadline loomed, they were sadly mistaken.
Johnson penned an op-ed in The Sun and The Daily Express that explicitly threatened a British exit from the EU with or without a formal agreement by October 31.
After decades of campaigning, three years of arguments and seemingly endless months of pointless delay, it is now just 25 days until the United Kingdoms membership of the European Union comes to an end. We will be packing our bags and walking out on October 31. The only question is whether Brussels cheerily waves us off with a mutually agreeable deal, or whether we will be forced to head off on our own, he wrote.
The EU is perfectly aware of Johnson's political troubles -- both in his own party and with the opposition. But Johnson's threat should now impress on the EU the seriousness of the situation. Part of the calculus used by the EU was always that the Brits would get cold feet and keep delaying their exit until a change in political leadership brought them back to their senses.
That's not going to happen now. No court will grant Brexit opponents a stay. It's too late for a referendum. Johnson is pulling out on the 31st, end of story.
European leaders have raised serious concerns about Johnsons new proposals and said that in their current form they are unacceptable to both Brussels and Dublin a point reiterated Saturday when Johnson spoke to several EU leaders by phone.
Johnsons comments came hours after the EUs chief Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier warned

Why wait? Do it now or you're just posturing.
Best move Great Britain ever made...within ten years Great Britain will the number one nation in Europe...Trump & Johnson will change the entire world for the better!!!
“We will be packing our bags and walking out on October 31. “
In before future press headlines:
“Britain’s Halloween Nightmare”
“Scariest Halloween Ever”
“Boris Johnson Halloween Ghoul”
Etc....
Hard exit is the best way. Rip off the bandaid. Trump will negotiate some sweet trade deals with Boris. Win win.
It becomes official on that agreed upon date. It doesn’t become official until then. Relax.
Just because no court has yet done it doesn't mean it won't happen. I think the biggest underreported story is how the entire British system of government just kind of makes the rules up as it goes. If the Brexiteers were smart, they would next demand a written constitution.
...Great Britain will the number one nation in Europe...
Agree.
For the EU PC globalist crowd (and the U.N.), any sovereign nation being #1 is absolutely intolerable. Deplorable. Only a global committee can be #1.
Pound sterling instead of the EU coin?
Good for the Brits!
He needs to comb his hair.....
But how can he just ignore the Surrender Act, which requires him to ask EU for an extension?
Part of the problem here is the Cameron-enacted Fixed Term Parliament Act. In the old days, if the government lost a majority of Parliament, a vote of no confidence and new elections were a matter of course. Now, the government and the Parliament majority are at loggerheads, and an election is being vetoed by the Parliamentary majority, which is a very unusual situation in their Parliamentary system (not of course for us with a Presidential constitutional system).
No Parliament has gummed up the works, because it passed a law requiring Boris to ask EU for an extension. They will call him a lawbreaker if he ignores it, and the remoaners will get the courts involved.
Why the EU? Let the no deal Brexit will happen and who ever feels the pain the most will be the one to do a deal.
Let’s see if he means it.
The U.S. accounts for 10% of Great Britain's trade. Around half their trade is with EU countries. Not much Trump can do the help with that.
His hair is part of his brand. Combing it down would neuter him.
Britain’s Samson?.... : )
It happens on Oct 31, without Boris needing to do anything, or get anyone's approval.
The remainers are demanding Boris do something to stop the clock, but they have no ability to MAKE him take any positive action. All he has to do is sit on his hands and refuse to do anything.
