You still need valid Identification AND authorization to get on military facilities. If you do NOT have valid DoD ID, you need to go to the pass office and present additional documents, including a contract, ID, etc. If you live in a state where the DL meets Real ID requirements, and you have a valid reason to enter the base, that DL is scanned and input into the system for the specified period. Scanning your Real ID DL is actually far more secure than the old paper passes. If I leave my ID at home, I don’t get on base.
