People fall for hate crime hoaxes for the same reason they’ve fallen for the Trump-Russia/Ukraine hoaxes — confirmation bias. They want to believe them because they confirms their existing beliefs.
I think those are rates per 100,000 population, not percentages. Pretty sloppy not to say what units are used.

Democrats have convinced the fools in the press that it's not the tactic - it's the choice of victim. In the real world we would think of the press as enablers of evil. Then again, the press was on board screwing over black citizens in the Jim Crow South too.

“It’s a Hoax” is now my default response to these types of incidents.

I don’t.
I don’t think that the media “falls” for these hoaxes. They know they are hoaxes, and deliberately encourages and promote them as a way of whipping up anti-white hatred and hysteria. They know that by time the hoax is exposed for what it is, they have served their purpose because everyone will remember the original story and forget that it was actually a hoax.
If they had actually “fallen” for the hoax, they would be more careful the next time, but since they didn’t “fall” for it, they can easily move from one hoax to another without even a pause.
Their goal is to keep the pot boiling by stoking the fire.
WE don’t but the media just makes believe WE do.

The nitwit probably also believes in man-made global warming and reasons since all of the erudite Democrat presidential candidates are full buy-ins, it must be true.
Many people completely believe their trusted sources but do NOT give their beliefs the common sense test. In other words, some believe MSNBC, others take everything FOX tells them as gospel.
Every one of our sources is sometimes wrong. The difference is that we know the big alphabet "news" is today mostly propaganda, not well researched news.
