There must be more to this story. Yes, the mother (no father?) is right to be irate, but I suspect the 16-year-old daughter was offered the contraceptive by the school nurse and said yes. She certainly would have had to offer the nurse her arm and watch as the little cylinder was inserted; like ear-piercing and tattooing, it couldn’t have been done without her cooperation. She knew what was going on and never told her mom.
Dont want one of the teachers knocking her up...Bad PR
Oh look at you with trying to get all the facts and stuff.
Just when we were having fun not reading and speculatin !
And, unlike ear piercing or a tattoo, it could be done without parental consent.
The daughter is unable to provide consent to waive liability for medical malpractice.
Who was she screwing that she NEEDED one?
All of what you are saying is true, and none of it would be material in a legal system where you are liable for their medical expenses to age 26.
Under 21 you can’t rent a car. Legally can’t do it. You can drive a tank, but you can’t rent a car.
And 16 year olds can consent to medical treatment, but cannot vote. So you can understand complex medical information, but can’t vote for one of the two bad choices being presented to you - both of whom are working for roughly the same thing.
The bottom line here is that if we are a nation of laws, and the legal system loses its credibility, then the end of this is extremely well understood, and it always ends the same way.
It’s not a conservative or a liberal thing, it’s just the way things fall apart.
And when you go after children, the response by adults is going to generally be to protect them using any means at their disposal.
It’s a very bad combination.
We need a new party. The party of ‘Leave me and my kids the f*** alone’.
