Ad hits Louisiana governor on ex-aide’s harassment scandal

Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards’ decision to hire a chief deputy previously accused of sexual harassment is the target of a new Republican-financed attack ad that aims to dent the Democratic incumbent’s support from women.

The 30-second spot released Thursday by the Republican Governors Association’s PAC comes as national GOP leaders step up efforts to keep the Deep South’s only Democratic governor from outright victory in the Oct. 12 election. Vice President Mike Pence plans to travel to Louisiana on Saturday to rally support for defeating Edwards.

Johnny Anderson is the Afro-American Staffer that was fired.

From what I gather, Johnny Anderson had sexually harassed 6 women before John Bel Edwards hired him as a HIGH LEVEL STAFFER.

On a different note, on Monday, September 30, 2019, President Trump stated via twitter that voters should only support one of the two Republican candidates, but not John Bel Edwards.

@LAGOP has this on twitter I believe under the hashtag '#FIREJBE' (Fire John Bel Edwards)

I am not very good with Twitter (yet).

All true, but the usually sleepy GOP is concerned Edwards will get more than 50% of the vote in the primary coming right up and thus win the election. Edwards has concentrated on being a low key noncontroversial figure who has positioned himself as more interested in non-partisan programs than partisan rancor. He has also been careful to take care of Dem core constituent groups such as public school teachers and employees. His largely noncontroversial term is strategy that looks to a low turnout and mobilizing the democrat core of urban blacks and state and local government employees to win him a second term.

How liberal is Edwards. Really, he signed the most restrictive Abortion law in LA history. No Republican in this state ever did. He is pro police, his Brother is a Sheriff in LA Parish, as was his Father. He is a West Point Grad.

If the Republicans plan to win, how about them not lying. I am no Republican, I am no Democrat, I am Independent with Conservative leanings. I was what was once the old Reagan Conservatives. Not sure many of them are even around any more.

JBE (or “The bug” as he’s sometimes called here in Louisiana) is a leftist through and through. He signed the anti-abortion bill to fool the conservatives here into thinking he’s pro-life. The bill itself has language making it not take effect until and unless Mississippi’s similar law is upheld in the courts, which he knows will likely take years if it ever happens at all. This was pandering, nothing more. I could care less who the bug’s relatives are, and he crows about his West Point attendance as if that compensates for his liberalism.
He supports sanctuary cities, brags about balancing the budget without mentioning the tax hikes that “balanced” it while chasing away businesses right and left. This was after he had warned that things were so bad we may lose our TOPS scholarship program, that elderly people would be thrown out in the streets because he would have to shut down nursing homes, and other dire consequences of not giving him what he wanted. Now he’s bragging about all the surplus he created, and interestingly none of those threatened cuts were ever mentioned again.
Our roads suck, flood control sucks, taxes are high, crime is bad... the list goes on. Since The Bug took office, we have fallen to 50th among the states in pretty much anything related to business, economy, etc while most of the other 49 are prospering in the Trump era. This a-hole needs to be voted out, bigtime. However, Republican Eddie Rispone is running a completely negative campaign against Dr. Ralph Abraham, the other R in the race, instead of attacking JBE. Rispone has proven to be the Ross Perot of this race (he even looks and talks like Perot) and may very well help hand a victory to the Bug, something that will continue the downward spiral we’re in.

LA’s roads suck because our Gas taxes are the 2nd lowest in the country. You get what you pay for. I am not for excessive tax nor I am against all taxes. I am for fair and efficient taxation. JBE is no Liberal, that is BS. And he is Pro-Life, more pro LIfe than all this Republicans who run around saying there pro Life and then don’t do crap. Did Buddy Roemer sign an abortion restriction bill, not one was passed and he vetoed it. Did Foster, who was a good governor push for one, did Bobby Jindal, who was just as bad as Blanco, God Bless her Soul, he did not either.

LA taxes are not high, in fact, do the research, we are in terms of Property, Sales and Income tax the 7th lowest taxed state in the country. If you add Gas Taxes, where we are the 2nd lowest, we are even lower. This JBE is a tax and spend liberal being pushed by Republican packs are lies, which is why I became Independent. They lie as much as the Democrats. And when you add the Neocon republicans who love starting all these wars, as long as somebody else kids get sent to fight them, screw them too.

LA economy is still, for better or worse, tied to how high the price of Oil is. We are not as tied as we were back in the 70’s and 80’s but still that is the economic driver of the state.

Abraham is another Neocon type Republican, Rispone you are correct is a Ross Perot guy with half his sense. JBE is not perfect, but he is the most Pro-Life governor I have seen in LA in my life time. That for me is a core Social conservative issue, again I am an Independent, that I give him credit for, even if you do not, that is your opinion and your view, fair enough.

LA does have high sales taxes, true, but income and property are low. Sales tax are a consumption tax which of course hits lower income disproportionately.

So if you add gas taxes, which are a major tax, we are according to the tax data I have seen from 2016-2017, one of the 10 overall lowest tax states.

Here if Forbes ranking of State and Local tax burden using the 2016 tax data from the Heritage Foundation. I have been looking for the data with the 2017 and 2018 tax data to see where LA ranks

https://www.forbes.com/pictures/mlj45emjkj/no-6-louisiana/#1faa21137eb1

But as of say as of 2017, based on 2016 data, LA was the 6th lowest tax burden state in the USA.

LA Gas taxes are as of 2019, July, the 7th lowest, sorry about that, not 2nd lowest. But still, when you tax sales, Income, Property and gas taxes, LA is in the lowest 10 overall taxed states. So I don’t know where all these adds I have been seeing on TV say otherwise. Facts don’t back it up.

I’m looking at 2018-2019 Louisiana tax ranking figures from taxfoundation.org. (Gas taxes paint a very different picture from reality.)

Current LA rankings are:
Overall 44
Corporate 36
Individual 32 (a whopping -10 drop from 2018)
Sales taxes 50 (last in the nation)
Property taxes 32

So I disagree completely that we are among the lowest taxed states.

As for JBE, signing a completely meaningless, court-blocked abortion restriction bill doesn’t make him pro-life. It was just a way to fool people into thinking he is, thus garnering more votes which could decide a close race, and keep our state screwed for 4 more years.

We’ll just have to agree to disagree about him.

Is that 44 overall the 6th lowest or 6th highest in terms of burden. As for the abortion bill, why didn’t Bobby Jindal ever push for it.

And you know why we have high sales taxes. As for individual taxes, are you sure we went down -10. Is that due to other states cutting individual tax rates or LA raising them. I know Kansas in 2018 with Brownback tried the cut every tax on the books and it did not work out. I am neither for no tax at all or excessive tax but responsible taxation.

How do Gas Taxes paint a different picture from reality. Gas taxes are one of the taxes you pay quite a bit off. I fill my vehicle up every 7 to 10 days, about 43 times a year. That means I am paying Gas taxes 43 times and spending about 2000 dollars a year on GAS.

I am going to check out the 2018-2019 tax foundation site, which I have used to research this topic in the past.

https://www.thebalance.com/where-you-ll-pay-the-most-in-state-and-local-taxes-3193259

So we do have higher sales taxes, which are voluntary. I am control my spending. And there is only a certain amount of stuff I am going to spend money on. State Income taxes are maybe at the median, highest rate 6%, but nowhere near California 13%. Property tax are the lowest in the country, which is the most significant asset most people have. So if you add those 3 local taxes, Sales, Income and Property, I still maintain the LA is not among the overall highest taxed citizens in the country. Thus, that 44 ranking you are reporting from the Tax Foundation means we are less taxed overall than 43 other states.
