I guided lady that hunted with a scoped .454 Casull (longer barrel, of course) and she was damned good with it. She was only about 5’6” and weighed maybe 125 lbs., but she was fearless with that thing; took a very nice Coues whitetail with it at about 175 yards from a seated position.
Like.
I carry either a Glock 20 10mm or a Ruger Alaskan 3” 44 mag as my everyday carry. There are big vicious predators everywhere. 9mm on a grizzly is going to really whiz him of initially.
“If your going to pack a hand gun in bear country while hunting or hiking it is smart to have a 44 mag.”
I survived using a .22 Beretta micro.
My buddy I shot in the leg while I was running wasn’t as lucky, though.
;-)
“..they used 9 mm handguns.”
Fifty years ago I was shocked to learn Fred Bear, known big game hunter with a bow, carried a .44 Magnum under his shirt when hunting.
I later learned that for TV and movie production, the bow hunter often had a man with a rifle off screen, “just in case.”
It is like learning your favorite rough and tough cowboy actor is afraid of guns and horses, and uses makeup.
When I hike I bring my black lab and my Ruger Redhawk .44 magnum. Getting to it in time is the only concern. If I can draw it - that hand cannon would stop a friggin truck.
My labs job is to give me enough advance warning.
Leftism is truly a mental disorder.
Out in Oregon or Washington, within the past couple years a jogger was severely mauled by a mountain lion. “Authorities are investigating a possible motive.” LOL!!
The idea a carniverous predator beast of the wild with 4” canine incisors needs a “motive” is something to ponder. Somebody actually wrote that shit, I’m going from memory, but they did mention they were trying to determine a motive.
Then there was the family, a few years back, who bought bear repellent, and sprayed it on themselves to keep the bears away. All ended up in the hospital.
Really -- I got a big kick out of it the first time I read it. It was done up on an authentic looking Wisconsin DNR document.
It's a little less hilarious the 900th time you read it.
Excellent strategy!
I have a Great Pyrenees but unfortunately when off my property (his dawn to dusk patrol area) or off a leach, he has a mind of his own and loves to roam looking for bad actors. Very head strong and stubborn 125 lb beast he is!
Whether it’s cockroaches or saber tooth tigers, they use critters as lawfare.
Green on the outside, Red on the inside. They don’t really like wildlife, but they hate humanity.
Bear spray repellent? LOL!!
It’s just like OFF! Mosquito repellent? LOL!!
Yeah, I’m thinkin’ that’s a joke. Gotta be. Nobody is that stupid. Well... leftist democrats maybe. Gotta news source?
Fred Bear was not what he pretended to be and probably gave some impressionable people some dangerous ideas, IMO. Flame suit on.
Can't be serious.
When I hunt in Bear country I keep my Springfield Armory Range Officer chambered in 45 ACP by my side. The very purpose for which that side arm was developed was stopping the bear like tribesmen in the Philippines.
Yes. It is part of Disneyfication.
Animals are really just furry humans, with human motivations and ethics...
It happened when we were at Glacier a few years ago.
For the sarcasm detector impaired: I should have put a /S on the last post.
Okay, smaller, light weight, I get it but jeez... consider the choices that are available. Even for the same size and weight, why not an SP101 loaded with some serious .357 hardcast loads?
Glad these guys got away with just a trip to the ER.
Sarcasm? You accurately described what urban moronic imbeciles think.
