Finland was a Soviet satellite country (Communist mentality)
If you remove all the reindeer’s from Finland, there is little mammal life left.

Soviets could not control Finland... the Winter War and the Continuation War. During Winter War the US and UK aided the Finns against the Russians (during the Ribbentrop Molotov Treaty). The Continuation War was part of the split of nazis and Soviets, and the Nazis helped the Finns expand and aid operation Barbarossa. It was the Finns defeats of the Soviets that convinced hitler to invade russia and break Ribben/Molotov pact. That the soviets were poor fighters, etc.

Finland repaid all WWI debt to the US, as well as the mandated 300 million to Soviets for damages done to them (once they became our erstwhile “ally” spying the crap out of the brits and US in fact, lying all the time). And Finland also repaid all the debt of WWII for US assistance and UK assistance.

The current interest of US has to do with NATO and also the coming Brexit, Italexit, and certain other EU country’s leaving. 70% of Finlands imports are mandated to come from EU. They’d like cheaper more plentiful goods from US and UK and out of the EU. This the only country that ever paid the US back its war debt. Strategic.
