Amarin’s Drug Vescepa which currently is labeled for high triglycerides greater than > 500 is looking for expanded label in December based on their Reduce-it trial. That five year 8,000 patient trial showed an 30% reduction in Heart attaches and strokes for those on a Statin vs Statin alone.

It isn't entirety clear exactly how Vescepa works. Fast forward to a 3rd party Amarin sponsored study “Evaporate” which is ongoing but will have a nine month interim read out next month. The basis for the trial is if Vescepa reduces arterial plaque. I'm 100% positive that it will show that (based on Japanese studies of the same active ingredient in Vescepa) especially at the conclusion of what will be an 18 month study. Essentially Vescepa will be known as a "liquid stent". Earlier this year The American Diabetes Association added Vescepa to their standard of care list earlier this year. I have no doubt that many lives and amputeed legs will be saved amongst the Diabetes population.
