When it comes to combating climate change, a lot of people who talk the talk dont actually walk the walk, particularly if it means traveling on foot instead of by car.
While Americans are willing to make convenient changes to reduce the carbon emissions that scientists say are driving climate change and creating unpredictable weather patterns, they resist when faced with inconvenience, according to the results of a new poll by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research.
About nine in 10 Americans said they often or always turn off lights when theyre not needed, according to the poll. And more than half said they set their thermostat to 68 degrees or lower in the winter to reduce power consumption by their heaters.
But only 45 percent of respondents said they often or always set the air conditioner at 76 degrees or higher in the summer to do the same. Close to a third of Americans said they hardly ever or never set their thermostat that high.

Sorry, no, 68 is very cold to me inside in the winter.
What are you guys talking about, climate change is very real, there is no doubt about it. The left’s VERSION of what is happening is as fake as can be but there is no doubt that the climate changes over time.

What’s funny about this article is that they inadvertently show one of the biggest causes of excess localized emissions: toll plazas.
The San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge toll plaza (depicted in the picture) is one of the most horrendous places in the Bay Area, IMO. I actually sat in that traffic jam one summer Sunday in 2014 during a roadtrip out west. That plaza can back traffic up for at least a mile on I-80.
Want to lessen carbon emissions from automobiles and trucks??? Start by replacing the toll plazas with all-electronic tolling gantries.
Screw these people telling me how to live my life.
I have my own wants and needs. My thermostat is set on 73 Degrees year round. no matter what.

It has everything to do with the natural evolution and dynamics of the earth and sun.
Humans are not destroying the planet.
Liberals are. :-)
Meat, fresh fruit and veggies (except maybe when in season in your locality), private automobiles, single family homes, these are all in their sights.

I would give up ethanol in gas.
How did that 16 year old spoiled brat get to USA? Walked on water maybe????? My mom grew up without indoor plumbing or electricity. I grew up without heat and AC. I do not want to go back to the “good old days” And I insist on having my own car until my kids tell me I am too old to drive!!!!
About nine in 10 Americans said they often or always turn off lights when theyre not needed, according to the poll. And more than half said they set their thermostat to 68 degrees or lower in the winter to reduce power consumption by their heaters.
We use LED lights and they use almost no electricity.
We set AC on 72-74 if we are home. Much higher if we will be out for hours or days.
We kept heat at 64 all last winter! Electric blanket on bed, turned to Lowest setting. It was super cold but although we can afford it, and we do not believe in human caused Glowbull Warming, I don’t like HUGE heating bills. We have propane here and it is so $$$$$$. I thought I was going to freeze! LOL I didn’t have heat, or AC, until I was 16. In Okla where summers are in the 100s and winters are in the 0s. You learn how to bundle up in winter and slow down in summer. But I LOVE MY AC, heat, indoor plumbing, etc. I love my dishwasher, bath tub, shower, garbage disposal, clothes washer and dryer, etc. I consider them LUXURIES that I LOVE!
WE kept ours at 64 all last winter. It is cold. But I kept telling myself it was better than summer heat! LOL
I LOVE YOUR COMMENT!
We have a motto, it is part of a song by Ray Wylie Hubbard, “Screw You We’re From Texas” he he he
True. But WE on our side know the truth of what they are...
The temp I like it inside in winter, I would find too hot in summer, it’s weird.
I’m only concerned with climate change on the local level (inside my house ;-D ).
I would give up Cheap Whiskey, Wild Women, Dancing, and Cigars!
{ I already do don’t any of that! LOL }
I agree totally!
When studying the chapter on electricity, physics class discussion suggested that the significant digits of monthly electric bill for most consumers may be due to inrush current when turning devices on.
Inrush current
We appropriately(?) got into the habit of shutting lights off when not in use in the days of the incandescent light bulb.
But since most of the month electric bill is arguably mainly due to momentary inrush current when turning lights on, the question is this, even for LED bulbs. Is it cheaper to just leave a light on until it's time to call it a day, paying for a single daily inrush current for a given light, than it is to allow multiple daily inrush currents in the name of saving electricity?
There is probably a tipping point regarding minimizing energy usage when you should leave appliance on or shut it off.
Insights welcome.
