In the past week -- amid allegations that President Donald Trump abused the power of his office for personal political gain -- there has been an absolute rush among House Democrats to call for impeachment proceedings against the President. What was once regarded as a risky position, politically, has now become a default position of the vast majority of the Democratic caucus.
But interestingly, it's not the position of the entire caucus. Yes, 223 House Democrats are on the record supporting an impeachment inquiry. But 12 holdouts remain.
Why? Good question! As (almost) always in politics, the answer to that question is, well, politics. Of the 12 holdouts, 11 represent districts that Trump carried in 2016. Trump's winning margin in those 11 ranges from quite narrow (+1.5 percentage points in Rep. Lucy McBath's suburban Atlanta seat) to huge (+31 in Rep. Collin Peterson's rural western Minnesota seat).
The one outlier in the group is Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson (Texas). Trump lost Johnson's seat by 61 points in 2016.
Johnson is a bit of a unique case as some outlets -- including the Texas Tribune -- count her as in favor of impeachment. CNN does not because, in her statement on the subject, Johnson made her support for impeachment conditional. "If the decision is made by the President and his Administration to withhold this information from Congress, or if the allegations of his abuse of power are substantiated, I will be placed in a position where I must fulfill my constitutional duty and support impeachment proceedings," she said. The whistleblower complaint has now been turned over to Congress so it remains to be seen where, exactly, Johnson now comes down on impeachment.

Seems like a good time for the Fisa Court abuse information to come out if it’s completed. I want to think Trump and DOJ are waiting for the perfect moment but so lack of indictments on Dems for all we know they’ve done just doesn’t seem promising.

I have the opposite take. The unelected press cries wolf, and the elected rats abuse their power to follow the commands from the ‘free press’.
It’s the media that has been clamoring for impeachment for 3 years. Yeah, the elected rats are finally following through, but it is the dangerous unelected democrats (the press) pulling the strings.
218 votes would give them a bare majority to approve an article of impeachment, if it gets that far.
Do they want to go down that road, with no bipartisan support?
in the Clinton impeachment, there were about 30 Democrats, I believe, who crossed the aisle and support Clinton’s impeachment. There was some true bipartisan support for that effort.
RE: Rep. Collin Peterson votes with Republicans on a lot of issues, and he has done so, during his entire duration in Congress.
So, what’s he doing being a Democrat?

Now this is my District. Kind is a water-carrier, never has a serious challenger and most of his money is from out of state and his support is rabid progs.
Maybe the internal polls show SW WI is strongly for Trump.

By next election, every Democrat that votes for impeachment will be out of work, either by election, Executive Order or prosecution.

There are still 12 House Democrats who don’t support impeachment proceedings. Why?
Because some may still be in possession of a few ounces of brain, the rest of them including some republicans, just about have lost it all.
Maybe because there are no high crimes or misdemeanors committed by Trump?
What impeachment is really about: it’s a show trial humiliating your opponent.
We have to counter all this.
It’s all about msnbc,cnn,abc,cbs,nbc, showing Trump being humiliated and them never having to take a vote.
