Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s announcement that the House will formally consider President Trump’s impeachment has plunged America into a constitutional crisis.
Mr. Trump smartly released the rough transcript of his July 25 conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. It undermines Mrs. Pelosi’s claim (made after the transcript’s release but before she had read it) that Mr. Trump “asked a foreign government to help him in his political campaign at the expense of our national security.” Yet don’t expect the president’s act of transparency to deter Democrats who want him removed from office.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Rep. Adam Schiff could also come to regret recent comments. On Saturday Ms. Warren called for Mr. Trump’s impeachment for having “solicited another foreign government to attack our election system.” In a Tuesday fundraising email, Mr. Schiff accused the president of having “pressured a foreign leader to make up dirt on one of his political opponents.”
Both claims are irresponsible. They’re also hypocritical: In 2016 Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign funneled money through a law firm to pay an opposition research firm, Fusion GPS, to hire a British former intelligence agent to reach out to his contacts in Moscow—Russian former intelligence agents—to ask for dirt on Donald Trump. The result was the now-discredited “Russian dossier.”
Neither Ms. Warren, Mr. Schiff nor any other major Democratic leader criticized Mrs. Clinton for “soliciting another foreign government to attack our election system” or inviting Russian intelligence to “make up dirt on her political opponent.”
Mrs. Pelosi knows impeachment is unpopular with voters, especially in the 43 Republican districts that Democrats flipped in 2018. She knows impeachment will drown out all other messages, leaving Democrats without a record of achievement next fall.

relictele, you are so right about Carl Rove. At one time long ago he seemed so sage-like and a bit of a political wizard. Recent debaucles, most notably his declaring adamantly that Trump had utterly no chance in hell of winning, showed us all how infantile his ‘expertise’ really was. that verse “oh how the mighty have fallen”. He, like a puppy scolded with his tail between his legs for the longest time now has finally grown back some little nuts and is again patronizingly pontificating his much learned expertise.. I look right past him as a total idiot and wait for someone else to start speaking.

My theory is that Pelosi jumped on "The Crazy Train" of impeachment when she found out that Idiot Joe Biden and his son [and most likely several other prominent 0bama crooks] were going to be shown to have committed criminal acts in the whole Ukraine thing. She thinks that the impeachment uproar will cause everyone to completely overlook the Biden sleaze.

This goes to the theory that Pelosi is preparing a major purge of the onerous far leftists of the party, by giving them what they want. She figures that the Democrats are going to get nuked in the next election, so she is hoping that the radicals get the worst of it.
Being a pest to your own party is a bad sin in Washington, so Nancy wants the extremists pretty much wiped out.
The Biden FACTS, not speculation— are fully documented with the money trail intact. We have a treaty with Ukraine to cooperate on criminal investigations.
Biden— publicly admits to a criminal act while in his office of VP. This plus the money trail and emails— most of which in clear public view. Biden is OVER.
And the next in line, Warren cannot SAY whether she would “allow” a criminal act of her prospective Vice President or their “son”. SHE is that corrupt, and completely confused whacko.
This is brilliant political warfare- and the dems always telegraph their fear.
Trumps use of one word-— in the transcript... CROWDSTRIKE and the “copy of the DNC server” that crowdstrike “got to the Ukraine”!
Hillary went bananas on the hysteria call— impeach. The DNC server act by the former FBI clowns.... remember Comey? This is criminal as well.

You know that Pelosi didn’t read the transcript before her idiot announcement. As a member of the continuing Intel cabal coup— her @ss is exposed, and the “whistleblower” whoever hey are, will be indicted and tried for criminal acts— after they are publicly named.
ADM Maguire is now the DNI— Coats gone and the tech weenie Brennan protege Sue Gordon kicked away gone . Schiffty had this in the works for months— and he... is literally TOAST for these acts. Hopefully also Burr. Maguire is a SEAL commander/ADM. He’s not quitting no matter who at WaPo had it leaked to them, fake, from another deep state team member that he was leaving.

I can see that.
She’s going to have to be careful because it could blow up in her face. If Pelosi-style Establishment Rats are still the majority it will likely work. I am not convinced that’s the case anymore. So it could backfire and she get’s blamed for the 2020 election disaster & she get’s purged.
Don’t forget the Wide Latina is in poor health and is already at the expected age at which most females with type I diabetes croak.
In my wildest fantasies Trump gets re-elected and gets to replace 3 of the Gang of Four on the Supreme Court. The wailing of the Donkeys would be epic.

What’s not seen is her directing the leadership to undermine her hit list.

Yes, I think you are right and the Democrats will continue the impeachment right into his next term. Still trying to make the same argument about the Supreme Court.
Now that I say that, does each term of a President stand on its own regarding impeachment? -OR- Can the Democrats impeach Trump during his second term for things that (never) happened in his first administration?
