On Tuesday evening Nancy Pelosi made one of the most colossal blunders in the modern history of American electoral politics. Rejecting the accumulated wisdom of a long and successful career in the House of Representatives, she set aside her own instincts and announced the beginning of formal impeachment proceedings against President Trump on the basis of a third-hand rumor about a phone call with the president of a Eurasian republic.
Pelosi knows this will not be popular. She knows more than that. She knows that it will be a disaster for the Democratic Party, that it will inflame the president's base and inspire even his most lukewarm supporters with a sense of outrage.
She knows that in states like Michigan, upon which her party's chances in 2020 will depend, the question of impeachment does not poll well.
She knows, further, that Joe Biden will not be able to spend the next 14 or so months refusing to answer questions about the activities of his son, Hunter, in Ukraine, and that increased scrutiny of the vice president's record in office will not rebound to his credit. She and her fellow Democratic leaders had better hope that someone like Elizabeth Warren manages to steal the nomination away from him before this defines his candidacy the way that Hillary Clinton's emails and paid speechmaking did during and after the 2016 primaries.
Why? Because her hand has been forced. The same members of her caucus who have clamored for Trump's impeachment on the basis of his immigration policy, his non-existent collusion with Russian authorities during the last presidential election, and his ownership of various hotels have once again lighted upon high crimes and misdemeanors.

I don’t think this has anything to do with impeachment....
I think RBG is about to pass, and this is how the Dems intend totop Trump from appointing a replacement. If he does, 40 years of socialist “Gains” are gone.

Pelosi said absolutely nothing new. There has been an impeachment inquiry going on sense the Dems took over the house. There has been no floor vote for the start of impeachment.
so far the D’s haven’t even got Trump on a jaywalking ticket.

Exactly..if this were TRULY about the phone call, they would have demanded the transcript be released and wait to see if Trump actually did anything illegal before pushing forward with impeachment..but the truth about Biden is coming out, they cant have that, not like they care about Biden they dont, it all leads back to Obama, their messiah and they cant let their messiah’s legacy be destroyed
The dems really do not want anything to do with 2020.
This is exactly why I believe Trump set this all up.
Biden will be toast. Trump would love to compete against the shrill and annoying Elizabeth Warren. He’ll again make the MSM look like total partisans and fools, taking their reputation down yet another few notches.
Could be about RBG, Except dems don’t control the Senate. So they won’t be able to stop a nomination even if they have an Impeachment inquiry in progress.
They might be able to stop it if they actually have voted for impeachment and the trial is moving to the Senate. But they don’t have the votes for that. And they won’t have the votes for that unless they find something really damning. Not this circus of unsubstantiated accusations.
The problem for Pelosi is that the problems with Ukraine and corruption there don’t end with Biden. Hillary and Obama are also involved in Ukrainian corruption.
The old bat called for impeachment over a phone call the so-called witness wasn’t a witness to, didn’t hear, and knows nothing about.
I have been following this issue very closely and I strongly suggest the President is going to make a laughingstock out of them. Moreover, that he is allowing them to make a laughingstock of themselves. I can’t be sure, but I’d bet dollars to doughnuts he is letting them have the 24news cycle today (endless comparisons on NPR between him and Nixon, etc.) so that when the tapes come out and there’s nothing in ‘em, he can deliver the devastating smackdown on the Bidens. Liberals really do believe they are smarter... That’s their achilles heel. I went to school with these people - the Exec editors, the “journalists,” etc. - And they really, really think Republicans are stupid. Trump knows this. He is a very, very smart man, and I strongly suspect he’s about to deliver a spanking.
Color me inflamed.
I have to wonder whether Nancy was expecting Trump to stonewall on the transcript. I think he waited for her to make this move before releasing it.
MS. PELOSI JUST HANDED THE NOMINATION TO POCAHONTAS TODAY.
Did you see Dan Bongino on Levin’s show Sun night? He has a book out...he laid all this at obama’s feet... and biden’s. the last 3 years and before.. obama had Trump spied on.. obama had plans for this country .. and they all did not want Trump in the mix.
I think Pelosi knows they have no chance of winning POTUS.
And I think she is tired of the constant impeachment chirping.
Maybe if they have an inquiry and can’t come up with anything, then that will shut them up.
Pelosi is 79 years old. She will be 82 when she has to stand for election again. Is she going to run again? This is her last hurrah.
It’s the seriousness of the charge!
Rinse. Repeat.
