Nancy Pelosi just made one of the most colossal blunders in modern American politics
MSN/The Week ^ | 9-24- | Matthew Walther

On Tuesday evening Nancy Pelosi made one of the most colossal blunders in the modern history of American electoral politics. Rejecting the accumulated wisdom of a long and successful career in the House of Representatives, she set aside her own instincts and announced the beginning of formal impeachment proceedings against President Trump on the basis of a third-hand rumor about a phone call with the president of a Eurasian republic.

Pelosi knows this will not be popular. She knows more than that. She knows that it will be a disaster for the Democratic Party, that it will inflame the president's base and inspire even his most lukewarm supporters with a sense of outrage.

She knows that in states like Michigan, upon which her party's chances in 2020 will depend, the question of impeachment does not poll well.

She knows, further, that Joe Biden will not be able to spend the next 14 or so months refusing to answer questions about the activities of his son, Hunter, in Ukraine, and that increased scrutiny of the vice president's record in office will not rebound to his credit. She and her fellow Democratic leaders had better hope that someone like Elizabeth Warren manages to steal the nomination away from him before this defines his candidacy the way that Hillary Clinton's emails and paid speechmaking did during and after the 2016 primaries.

Why? Because her hand has been forced. The same members of her caucus who have clamored for Trump's impeachment on the basis of his immigration policy, his non-existent collusion with Russian authorities during the last presidential election, and his ownership of various hotels have once again lighted upon high crimes and misdemeanors.

Can you name a single Democrat who has been jailed for the coup?? For leaking classified information??
He's not a king.

He doesn't carry handcuffs or drive a SWAT van.

It has only been a couple of months since the Mueller investigation ended. There's a growing mountain of evidence daily that has to be investigated.

We're dealing with Democrats ultimately prosecuting like minded Democrats as well as like minded Republicans...all anti-Trumpers (which, BTW, you're beginning to sound like)

The President and what few supporters he has have to have all of their ducks in a row before they can put anyone in leg irons...so layoff the ankle biting for awhile...please.

Reps have to run every 2 years. Senators; every 6. Should be 4.

Should be term limits of 8 years max for a rep or senator too; just like the Presidency.

Thanks for your perspective.

I’ve worked with Hollywood lefties for 30+ years. They are stupefyingly arrogant, and entirely cocooned in their echo chamber.

The only remedy is their complete political destruction.

I’d like to tell him he’s doing great from Alberta, but that’s not an option. There’s more than just Americans rooting for him.

Interesting.

The entire article is about Machiavellian calculations about holding on to power.

Not a word about what is right or wrong.

So I used the wrong word. He still cannot reach across the *lines and demand what the Department of Justice acts on. We are NOT in the days of J. Edgar Hoover.

*separation of powers.

“This smells like a Clinton plot.”

It does have a whiff of cabbage and a full diaper. :-)

Seriously though ... its pretty obvious that the Clintons *HATE* the Obamas ... this might be their plan to take them out via Biden and take over the Democratic Party via Warren for the 2020 campaign (lots of money to be made).

You’ll know if Hillary is involved by what CNN tells their six or seven viewers what to think after this blows up.

Why would Trump release the transcripts if there is something in them that would be incriminating?

He is a very smart man and has a history of setting up his opponents for a fall.

Show some confidence in President Trump. He hasn't let us down yet.

Bet the whistleblower is sh****** his pants. He's suppose to testify Thursday.....if he doesn't take a walk in Marcy Park.

If I were Trump, I wouldn't release the transcript until AFTER the "whistleblower" testifies. Of course, if a few copies made it into the hands of the right committee members beforehand, the questioners could ask some very leading questions to set the witness up. Of course, since the "whistleblower" didn't actually hear what was said first hand, there should be no testimony.

I don’t think this has anything to do with impeachment.... I think RBG is about to pass, and this is how the Dems intend totop Trump from appointing a replacement. If he does, 40 years of socialist “Gains” are gone. Just POOF!

If RGB should pass, can a President under impeachment inquiry nominate a new Supreme Court Justice?

I don’t know if you were saying this, but is there even a whistle-blower? Did the dems make this up, hoping to impeach on such weak sauce and hop that this mysterious whistle-blower won’t have to testify?

I believe that she has ”given up”. The destruction of the Democrat party as a viable national organization in 2020 won’t be on her hands when the dust settles.

The important, strategic thing is to make sure one of the current candidates wins the primaries. Trump can beat any of them, pretty easily.

If it goes to a brokered convention, the Democrats can bring in someone who has not had to face the primaries, does not have a radical leftist record on the issues, and is well liked and well known, such as Oprah, or maybe Michelle Obama.

“Congressional terms are two years. Pelozi is up for election next year along with all House members.”

She is absolutely safe as a member of congress as long as she wants the job, but she is likely to very lonely in a few years.

If RBG is about to pass, the Democrats will make any desperate move necessary to prevent confirmation hearings.
Oh sure, there’s always the socialism, but this is mainly about preborn babies. It’s always about this when you get down to it. This is a spiritual battle on a gigantic scale.

“After watching SanFranNan’s news conference, it is obvious that over her summer vacation she had an eyebrow lift! Her eyebrows are at least 3 inches above her eyes.”

If she ever cuts herself while shaving, her entire face will snap back like a balloon stretched over a bowling ball. It must be terrifying to live like that.

I agree with you about that. I was just correcting the erroneous statement that she would be 82 when she ran again which would be 2022.
