I didn’t even know the UK had a supreme court....I thought it was just the Lords, but didn’t have any real supremeness about it....just sort of an advisory opinion.

It replace the Appelate Committee of the House of Lords (commonly known just as 'the House of Lords', but quite distinct from the upper legislative chamber) as the final court of appeal in 2009. This was one of Blair's constitutional reforms. Other considerations aside, it ends the ambiguity of the 'House of Lords' title
