Seabees were needed. Petey was an “ intelligence officer.” That can mean a lot of things. Supervising folks that study photos. Supervising people that debrief pilots. I heard he pretty much drove a superior officer around.
Anytime I hear “ military intelligence,” I think of a guy that lived in the same dorm as I guy I worked with back in the ‘80s. My friend said that one day, the guy knocked on his door, and when he opened it, he found the guy standing there with a bicycle pump. He said “ Check this out,” and began breaking wind for about 30 seconds. My friend just gave him a disgusted look and closed the door.
